I actually never thought of it that way, but you're right. It makes me step back to reconsider Watson's ability. I still think he has great intangibles, and has the right personality for NY, but I have to say your point makes me question how much of their success was due to his abilities? WOuld he have been a lot more ordinary on an ordinary team? Could be. Thanks for that perspective.
Just hoping this is true. A bit worried that the Titans decide they'd trade the 5 for that and we're screwed.
The 12 and the 33 would be a win. If we can squeeze the 108 out of the deal also it is a no-brainer and a huge win. Rebuilding teams need draft picks. All 3 of those picks are valuable and at least one of them is likely to turn into a further trade down or into 2018, making the value even greater.
I know taking the 12 and 33 would be the right move but i really want howard. Mixed emotions if we did this and missed out on him
We'd get another TE somewhere in the draft and still have two talented bodies out of the 12 and 33 instead of one out of the 6. It's just raw numbers at that point. Two guys who could be big pluses vs one guy.
I think this is right. A lot of what happens next offseason is going to depend on how the season was perceived overall. If it was clearly a season in which the Jets were rebuilding and playing a lot of young players and looking at a high draft pick in 2018 there is a lot of slack for both Bowles and Maccagnan going into 2018. If somehow it is flipped around to be, the Jets are terrible and there is no hope, well that kind of pressure will get anybody fired.
we might get talented bodies, but i doubt we get the game breaker i think howard will be. talented players can be had in every draft. special players can't.
We're in a situation where we need as many talented players as we can acquire. I'd rather get two players who might be very good than one player might be great. In a season or two that might might turn around but right now we have holes everywhere and filling 4 or 5 of them in this draft is a must if we're going to create a genuine window in 2019 and forward. It's really important for us being competitive in 2018, which is the first step in that process. The 1977 draft: Marvin Powell (#4), Wesley Walker (#33), Scott Dierking (#90), Joe Klecko (#144), Dan Alexander (#200), Matt Robinson (#227) You need a lot of picks to make that happen and in the 7 round draft the only way to get them is to trade down. That's why I want the 6 to go down some. No surefire QB there for us and lots of things we want to get done before next year when a QB might be in the offing. I'd take the 12, the 52 and the 108 if that's all we could get just to have the three picks instead of one.
And where has that gotten us? I want a deep team waiting on a QB, not a few great players missing the team around them. We had Darrelle Revis in his prime with a bunch of veteran stars around him and couldn't put it together. Then the stars all aged out and franchise CB's do not exist. Next time I want a deep young prime team waiting on the star.
having a great cb isn't the same as having a great offensive weapon, especially in today's game, also you don't get to choose the order of when the great players become available. pass a generational talent to add some good players and who knows when the next chance at one will be. as jet fans searching for a qb, we should understand that clear as day.
Howard isn't a generational talent, just an excellent TE prospect. He may turn out to be better in the NFL than the projections, which are sort of Jimmy Graham-lite, however if he was a generational talent he would be the consensus #1.
It's not like the guys at 12 are chumps. Dalvin Cook is fantastic....It is very possible that Howard falls to 12 it's not a huge drop and some positions may be more valued than TE for those teams ahead of 12. There will be very good edge rushers. All in for trading down.
Can't remember the last good 2 way TE. Maybe Greg Olsen, but Olsen wasn't as good a blocker has Howard coming out
Yea I actually agree with that but every year there is a talented player that drops who could land at 12...We need every position possible so here's looking towards the draft.
