Just because I posted facts to prove your claim wrong doesn't mean I am going to lose my shit if they draft a QB. I certainly don't think any of the QBs in the draft are worth the 6th pick like you do but I'll deal with it just like I have the last 45+ years I have been a fan, if they go that direction. I will say one thing, you got the backpedaling down pat.
Listen, I'll admit I shouldn't have said we can all agree the Jets are taking Trubisky or Watson in the first round. I definitely mispoke, however, I still stand by the Jets drafting a first round quarterback. I can't see Mac passing on both Trubisky and Watson at No. 6. Perhaps then trade Hackenberg to Texans for whatever draft pick you can get back.
Nobody knows who the teams are really prioritizing this year. The Jets have had visits with everybody, playing up the Trubisky visit a lot. Usually that means smokescreen - so Watson is more likely the pick on 6. However they could easily be playing games just to get people interested in the 6 pick. There's no clear cut favorite this year beyond a mild lean towards Trubisky and if the Jets were trying to get teams nervous enough to trade up the best move would be to play the field, which is basically what they have been doing. I'm hoping some teams have a higher opinion of the QB's than they did in 2013. If not we're going to see a record run of CB's and S's go in the top 15 before the first QB comes off the board and the Jets likely will not get to trade down in the process. Hopefully a player worth the 6 will be there if that's the case.
They might go QB 1st round but I think there is too much other talent out there that would be a much better choice at 6. I am just not sold on any of these QBs to pick one that high, I also want them to give Petty and Hack enough reps to see where they are at. Picking up another QB means someone isn't going to get enough reps.
I think most people agree they need a QB and I'm one (probably in the minority) who hopes they do, but if I had to put money on it, no, I don't think they will.
There are no guarantees the Jets are in the position in the next draft to get one of the top tier quarterback prospects. Mac is in a make or break season this year as is Todd Bowles. They need to hedge thier bets at quarterback and get whomever they deem thier top choice. Having a clear cut young starting QB in 2017 would give the Jets fan base and ownership hope. Hope buys you an extension. If the Jets strategy is to try and trade down and acquire more picks while still getting thier guy, then so be it. Fail to provide hope this season, then everyone is gone. I wouldn't screw around this draft. I'd draft Watson at No. 6 and with the Jets No. 39 pick I'd package that with Wilkerson or Richardson to move back in the first round to get an edge rusher or cb. Whichever is BPA.
I guess we will see come draft day, but I see a scenario where they don't take a QB at all or they use the pick to trade down. No one is trading for Hack.
Have to agree with you. I could be wrong but I think Namath and Montana are the only Superbowl winning QBs to have won a national title.
It takes a great balanced team to win a national title. Every once in a while you get a great QB on that great team, but mostly it's just a good one. The Super Bowl is a different story. Teams can and do win the Super Bowl after losing up to 7 games during the regular season ('11 Giants). It's easier for a great QB to have a few great games in a row and carry his team to a trophy, like Eli Manning did in 2007 and 2011. Food for thought: If Eli was the Jets QB we would have run him out of town for all the picks he threw before '07. 64 picks in 55 starts before the playoffs in 2007. We would have run him out of town for 25 Int's in 2010 and 27 in 2013.
He's a great QB who takes too many chances. He's much like Joe Namath was in that regard only Eli has played for fairly conservative coaches most of his career so things never got to lightspeed the way they did with Namath.
I disagree - they are in total rebuild mode. They aren't expected to win many games. If he coaches poorly he can get fired, but they are NOT on the hot seat after getting rid of so many veteran players and not signing many established players.
You got that right. The Giants were 11-5 and 1st place in the NFC East in 2005, but Manning was mediocre. But he had stars like Tiki Barber, Plaxico Burress, Jeremy Shockey, and Amani Toomer to bail him out. And their defense was stout with Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora generating alot of sacks. In fact the Giants were successful in spite of subpar seasons from Eli, including: 2007: Giants were 10-6 Eli was 23 TD's 20 INT's. 2010: Giants were 10-6 Eli was 31 TD's 25 INT's Even when Eli was bad in 2013, 18TD's 27 INT's! The Giants were still 7-9. Only in the last 3 years after a decade playing has Eli been even close to efficient, throwing twice as many TD's to INT's the last 3 years. The Jets need to be a bit more patient with its QB prospects, including Hackenberg and Petty.
Read that the Jets and Browns are discussing a trade. Browns would move up to 6, Jets get the 12th pick. As well as a second (33) and fourth (108 I believe).
Read the same... Here is the link: http://walterfootball.com/nfldraftrumormill It makes a ton of sense. I actually mocked that they would do this. Swap 6th for the 12th and 33rd. Now that its out, its obviously not gonna happen!
If it does they will get both the players they want and we will probably get a safety and set the franchise back another 10 years.
Eli Manning should have an MVP trophy for his 2011 season. I never seen a QB carry such a crappy team to a SB win.
