Can't imagine he doesnt end up back in Chicago where he is familiar with many of the players and Lovie Smith.. he's not familiar with Martz, but they need a QB, Orton is a QB they know.. this isn't rocket science. And anybody who would rather have him over Sanchez is just flat out incorrect.
I dont know how you could say theres no chance he could be starting. It would only take him about an hour to learn Schottys entire playbook.
kyle orton is another example of what a quality offensive coordinator can do. yes i know josh mcdaniels isnt doing well in st louis. mcdaniels as a head coach in denver calling the plays made, orton/marshall a very good combo.
Orton was a significantly better QB in all major statistical categories last year on a terrible team. edit- I'm not saying we should sign Orton since the season would be over before he had the offense mastered. However the idea he is significantly worse than Sanchez has no basis in fact, he's basically a more accurate version of Sanchez.
Only if Hanie blows on Sunday. If Hanie plays well, then there is no need for Orton. Well, unless Hanie gets injured too. I wonder if the Redskins would consider Orton. He would be an upgrade over Grossman.
Many of you sound like the retarded dolphins fans who want this bum. 6-21 as a starter. Idiots on this site and FH need to watch the damn games.
He's no savior but he'd be a better back-up than Brunell, and his presence might push Sanchez a bit. I think the team ought to at least explore the possibility of signing him.
I would REALLY like to see what another QB could do with this team. That being said fuck Orton he's garbage.
Yeah, I've heard that. I just can't believe someone would say "hey, we've got a better chance of getting a playoff win with Brady Quinn than we do with Kyle Orton." If Tebow faltered and the Broncos were 3-7, sure, send Orton on his merry way and then kick Quinn's tires in the last six games. But not only has Tebow not faltered, he's got a chance to secure his team a home playoff game in the AFC west. That, to me, is not tire-kicking time. That's the time to have an experienced veteran who's won games for you behind the guy who excels at running into oncoming traffic. Division titles, home playoff games... these things are rare, even in the shitacular AFC West. I don't care what the expectations were at the start of the season; if you've got a shot this year, don't trim talent. Especially after his recent comments, it just seems to me that John Elway is not in "win now" mode. I sometimes suspect that he would prefer to be 1-9, with the fans desperate to cut Tebow loose and draft another Stanford quarterback. Or maybe he's a goofy-lookin' genius and just knows how to motivate Tebow. I dunno. The airs thin up in them mountains, you can't trust these people's judgments.
He's been better over his entire career. Schotty is no worse an O-coordinator than Ron turner with the Bears. Blaming the O-coordinator for several years of terrible comp% and INTs is pointless. No matter how bad the Coordinator INTs and fumbles are on a QB. Sanchez has more upside, but at this point he is not a better QB than Orton.
I don't know why there's all the Orton hate, the dude is a solid NFL QB. He's not a guy that will put the team on his back, but he's accurate and smart with the football. He was 21-12 with Chicago as a starter and remember he started off in Denver 6-0. They began to suck when Dumervil got knocked out and the defense fell apart, but Orton in my opinion should have made the Probowl a few years back over David Garrard. Denver was a mess last year, terrible defense and a lousy running game. Kyle Orton was the entire Offense. Put him on a good team and Orton will excel, just watch. If Orton goes back to Chicago or ends up in Houston those teams are instantly contenders again.
Orton would be a tremendous upgrade over Sanchez. We could actually have a QB who could throw something other than a slant. A QB who could look at more than 1/3 of the field. A QB who would not panic and assume the fetal position when rushed. A QB who would not tell the defense where the ball is going every play because he is incapable of looking away from his number one target. A QB capable of reading NFL defenses other than making simple reads during a 2 minute drill. He would simply make the whole offense better. With an actual NFL QB behind center defenses could not sell out against the run. We could open up the playbook. We would not have our QB spotting the other team one defensive TD a game. The defense would not continuously be on the field and be wore out by the 4th quarter. We would not have to run an offense designed solely to protect against the QB costing us the game. We could play offense almost like a real NFL team. We would go from the worst pocket QB in the NFL since Rob Johnson well to maybe even mediocre. The problem is its a short term answer. It gets us through this year and if he plays well maybe another year or two. But the Jets still need a young developmental QB. Maybe McElroy is that guy. They seem to like him a lot and he showed great instincts, calmness and presence in the pre-season. All the attributes that Sanchez lacks. I guess the question is are they fed up enough willing to end the Sanchez problem now? MY guess is not until next year.
