Of the ones who seem to think it was a bad call, this was probably the most common argument. As if the officials are supposed to just allow anything to go because of the situation. In that case we should send 4 TE's and a WR on the field and have the TE's just block all the DB's away from the WR as the QB passes it to him. Seems fair. I won't even get into the "hail mary" part of it.
You mean like the fact that it wasn't a hail mary situation and that you don't usually see single coverage on the guy receiving the hail mary?
I would agree with not calling it unless blatantly obvious on a hail mary if it was actually a jump ball of 4+ players. It was 1on1....while it was a desperation play...I wouldn't classify it a Hail Mary
It's a penalty either way, the only thing i would give the broncos fans is it could have been and illegal hands to the face rather than a pi. I of course have no problem with the refs decision to call it a pi though. Go Jets!
How? Grabbing the facemask interferes with Holmes making the catch. How is that anything besides pass interference?
The ball was in the air, and his face mask was grabbed. If that's not interfering with a receiver making a catch, I don't know what is. I can't stand other fans and the media getting worked up about this. It's unfortunate it had to happen in a big spot like that and overshadow the win, but it was the CORRECT call, and that's all you can ask for.
What? So you think defenders should be able to grab and pull WR's facemasks in an actual hail mary situation? NO!
Just want to point out that on the TD run look who pulls and clears the way! Slauson, Great play by the O-line and our nube!
This is what Peter King said about the PI in Monday Morning QB- That's ridiculous. Db's will interfere on any home run ball where there's even a chance it will be caught if all they have to worry about is 15 yards. This is the pros. Not college or HS football. You just need good refs in the right position calling the game with some consistency.
No, that's why I said unless it is obvious I wouldn't call it. I meant in the situations where 10 DB's and Receivers crowded in the end zone for a jump ball... there's going to be a little interfering both ways. You can't call that.
^^ (peter king) or maybe you should just coach your d-backs to be especially careful to not interfere in such situations?
I love how anyone arguing that the Jets got a gift doesn't mention that Holmes ended up with both hands on the ball even with the P.I. that grab of the facemask could have easily been the difference in actually catching the ball.
You know what I'm tired of defending this shit to people who didn't even watch the game and have no sense of the rules in football .... SO FUK IT!!!!!!! DEAL WITH IT!!! The JETS have been on the shit end of the Pooper scooper for years.. Enjoy the taste BRONCOS...Smear, It all over you godamn muzzles Put it on your Bit and Chomp on it!
It's really a shame that the interference had to happen because there was a good chance Holmes would have caught the damn ball if he didn't interfere. Then there'd be no discussion of gifts, only Nacho's 4th quarter heroics.
Peter King is an idiot. He got his facemask grabbed and the ball still hit him on the hands. No interference, he makes the F*ng catch, (which BTW, robs Denver of time as the clock runs). There are instances where PI should not be a spot foul, but this was clearly not one of them.
That is the problem. Those PIs are absolute back-breakers, but they must be that way. If it was not, it is like you said...you would rarely see a big play down the field since DBs will be taught to interfere in any way possible in those scenarios. I have always hated the ramifications of a defensive PI call, but I understand why it is enforced this way. We all just have to sit back and hope the Refs do the best job they can with enforcing it correctly.
Good, because that's what they sound like when they have no concept of what actually happened...a bunch of rainbow surfers
