I could care less what they think it was the right call (although it appears most agree it was the correct call) I wonder they thought the PI by Cromartie, Keller and Holmes were all the correct calls. I also wonder about the Thomas TD. What blew me away was there wasn't one official watching possesion on that play. The ref closest to the play was staring straight down at his feet which you could see in the replay. BTW can somebody explain what the penalty on Leonhard was, we were getting big time thunderstorms here in Vegas and Sunday ticket went out right as that play happened. Did they pick up the flag or did it stand and I'm still trying to figure out how that was a catch?
Rich, not only was the play reviewed, but it was said to be a good catch when it was pretty clear that it wasn't. And to top it off, Leonhard was hit with a 15 yard unnecessary roughness call that was blatant bullshit. It's called football. Let them play it. These refs were the worst in a long a long time.
They didn't pick up the flag. It went down as a personal foul/unnecessary roughness call because I believe they thought he supposedly lead with his helmet (which was completely bullshit). And right after, Rex challenged the catch on that same play, and the Refs ruling on the field stood since they felt he had secured the ball inbounds.
They saved themselves by correctly calling that obvious PI at the end. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who hesitated a bit when I saw the flag down thinking that maybe they would call it offensive AGAIN.
They said he led with his helmet? It was pretty clear he came in arms first and pushed the guy out. I only got one look but unless they saw something I didn't not sure how that got called.
While watching the game, I'm pretty sure the booth guys said this is what was being called, but even they said, the penalty was ridiculous because CLEARLY he did not lead with his helmet or hit the receiver in any way that would warrant a penalty call. It was a clean hit. From every single angle, it can be seen that the hit was as clean as can be.
That's not the only replay they screwed up either because Gaffney clearly did not catch that ball on Denver's last drive. Not sure how they blew that. That was about as much of a catch as Patrick Chung's INT was against us in week 2.
I'm glad the second forum link was posted, because the official forums for all of the teams are awful. The official Jets forum is a cesspool on another level with all the whining about the win.
If he would have tripped Holmes also, you'd really be confused. They'd have to call three penalties on the same player!!! Would that be enough for you to feel OK about the ball being placed at the 6 yard line?
interference The inconsistency in what is called pass interference is making a joke of the game. The penalty is so severe that it should never be called unless there is no doubt. The officials got most of them wrong today. The several offensive ones were silly. I'm happy the Jets won and certainly they got the short end until the last play but really almost every close game is decided by penalty calls. If this continues they will as bad as the MLB guys.
The key is that the ball is in the air. When the ball is in the air a face mask becomes PI, holding becomes PI, illegal contact becomes PI, etc. All of those penalties no longer apply when the ball is in the air as they then fall under the universal umbrella of PI. Before or after the ball has been thrown/caught they are individual.
Dolphin fans on finheaven are bitching more about the officiating than the Broncos fans. I'm guessing it's because Broncos fans actually watched the game?
Well. Not when the facemask is jerked while the ball is in the air. That's a blatant pass interference by any standard. The PI call was a right call.
