he just likes thinking that the Jets will hire him...I'm sure they'd love to bring someone on board that KNOWS he is always right. As for this topic, I hate to agree with Mr. Know It All but Nicks will be the best WR in this draft. I don't think he'll ever be a true #1 but he has great hands and is great after the catch. Sleeper WR: Domonique Edison from Stephen F. Austin He is 6'2, 205 lbs, and has sub 4.4 speed and great hands to go along with his impressive measurables. He had 67 catches, 1,106 yards and 18 TDs last season. He was dominant in Texas vs. The Nation practices but suffered a shoulder injury and didn't play in the game -- he is fine now.
Yeah I can see where you're coming from, MrE, its not crazy, its a POV at least worth considering I would say the same is true of Kenny Britt .. you can argue he'll be the best pro of the bunch too
Thanks Jabba - I consider Britt the next best receiver behind Nicks. I can see him being a dominant pro receiver.
Predicting WR performance is just too hard to take a WR in the first round. Mike Williams was the most dominating college WR I ever saw, look how that worked out. Last year I heard people saying teammate Lavell Hawkins was a better pro prospect than Desean Jackson because Desean was too small. The list goes on and on, and personally, I thought Malcolm Kelly looked like a future NLF star, he's buried on the roster. And going way back, I thought Rob Moore would be a Jerry Rice type superstar. Its the hardest position to pick, I think there are stats backing that up by comparing the percentage of 1st rounders who become pro bowlers, WRs are at the bottom of the list. As good as all or any of these WRs might become, I'd rather take a player with fewer risks surrounding him in the first round.
Well Lets be fair...if Im not mistaken Maryland's QBs have sucked so lets keep it in perspective and Mike Teel was a good college QB. Still I see why people love him, but I would take Britt over DHB with out so much as a blink, I would take Britt over Nicks as well
Mr. E, have you watched Crabtree on Path to the Draft at all. Not that it's all "real" because he's in front of a camera, but he seems very modest and hard-working. I bet he blows away the FOs and Scouts in his pre-draft interviews, if he's as genuine as he appears to be on that show.
If Sanchez is gone, I'm on record saying I want Nicks to be the hands-down pick. A CB may wind up being just as good - if not better - value, but if the Front 7 improves under Rex like it should, then a DB becomes less of a need and can afforded to be chosen with the next or later pick.
No, I haven't watched that show. I'll try to pick it up over the web. I've never questioned Crabtree's character and work ethic - he's got a great head on his shoulders - not cocky, but confident. He seems like a great teammate and a great person. I also know that he's a hard worker - I just don't think he'll be the best pro out of this receiver class.
Yeah, no, I wasn't calling out your opinion of him; just wondering if you caught that. The reality of his size should definitely not be ignored. At 6'1, he's no longer as big of a mismatch against "smaller" DB's, like 6'3 would be, especially if he doesn't have the elite speed that you look for in the top WR of the class. And I agree, the system at TTU probably padded his stats. But he looks like he'll be a good Pro, skill and attitude taken into account. I haven't really seen or heard the other WRs like I have seen and heard Crabtree because of Path to the Draft. They could be just as level-headed and diligent for all I know, but I've witnessed it with Crabtree, so he stands out more to me. Having said that, I wouldn't trade up to get him. But, hypothetically, if he fell to #17 and the choice was between he and Nicks, that'd be one tough decision, if you're truly trying to project the better Pro.
Chris Turner (Maryland's QB) wasn't even suppose to be the starter going into 2008, Steffy got injuryed and Turner did an OK job. Maryland's system isn't passer friendly and DHB did little to convince me he's a Rd 1 talent.
Understand able but you have to put a little emphasis on the QB Larry Fitzgerald and Boldin were not nearly as productive with Linehart as QB
My point was....Turner did a commendable job, in a system that doesn't pass the ball. Teel is a good QB.....but Rutger's runs more of a balanced attack. I think your trying to compare Apples to Oranges. I'm not drafting DHB in Rd 1 or Rd 2, based on a limited amount of work, is a pussy and wants no part of any kind of contact and based on a 4.3 time. At least Kenny Britt has the numbers and blocks his ass off and isn't afraid to hit someone. Britt is a well balanaced WR, that is light years ahead of DHB...and it's not because who was his QB.
I'm not sure how important comparing collegiate numbers are with wide receivers. Essentially, numbers don't judge potential. They play in difference conferences, different programs with different offensive strategies. There is just to many factors that go into a wide receivers numbers in college, so I don't see the point in comparing them as far as looking towards drafting one over the other.
To certain extent you have a point. But, watching the player's game tape....tells the whole story. DHB.......is afraid of contact, doesn't block, doesn't run good routes.....get my point? Everyone is basing DHB's potential, as you state, on his 40 time and a few big plays ( a few which were reverses). Look at the body of work and Britt is a more polished, NFL ready receiver.
