If Favre's leaving, I'd like to trade for a young guy that could compete with Clemens and Ratliff for the starting job, and, if he didn't win, would be a reliable backup. Someone like a Derek Anderson or a Seneca Wallace.

I like Garcia a lot, but no. Give Clemens or Ratliff a shot.

To start? I don't see any benefit in doing that. We have a good o-line.. just throw them out there.

Jeff Garcia on the Jets would depress me more than anything Favre did this season could.

Anderson probably could be acquired. He'd be a perfect Jets QB, too. He's highly erratic. At Oregon State he was up and down, good one game, bad the next. Sometimes it was a quarter to quarter thing. He'd be garbage in the 1st quarter and great in the 2nd. The wildness has continued for him in the NFL.
He'd put up #s like Todd in '83, O'Brien in '86, Testaverde in '00, and Favre in '08.

Explain what we do for next year? We give a second round bust with proven happy feet the job? Or make him compete with a guy whose shown us three good halves of preseason football?

I'm not saying make Garcia your quarterback of the future but he'd be an amazing stopgap who knows how to win while we groom an eventual franchise quarterback. This team is built up enough to win now and Garcia can win whether you like the fact that he's old or not.

I'd have to truly give Garcia some thinking if I would want him.

I'm all for Ratliff to be honest. Showed stride in the pre-season. At this point, I don't know what they want to do with Clemens.

    Against backups...

The Lions went undefeated in the pre-season...What did that get them?

I like Ratliff, but not to the point where I'd be ready to hand the 2009 Jets to him.

Maybe this is the true Jet curse, a win now attitude that convinces you to cut Penny, trade picks for Favre, then get Garcia, who is almost as old. After one year of Garcia fans will want Kurt Warner, after one year of that we'll trade to get Penny back, and so on and so on.

haha wait someone on this topic said the Patriots had no run game? im sure they do, wow what a running game would do for a young QB ... thats why I saw we let Ratiff play we have a strong running game, hmmm maybe Cowler would be a good idea
