LOL at you for summarily dismissing spread QBs. You do realize that more and more colleges are using spread offenses, don't you? It's going to get harder and harder to find college QBs who have played in an NFL pro-style offense. Quite a few starting good to very good QBs in the NFL played in spread offenses in college. Mayfield is a great prospect, has a better attitude, and has a lot of other qualities that Rosen may or may not possess. He also doesn't have Rosen's thin frame or injury history.
Mike M answer to a QB dilemma is overkill No reason to have 2 vets! When you draft a good QB in today’s college environment many ..like Rosen can just step in and play ..if the starter you have goes down or is not good enough.the ROOKIE plays Does Mac know what he is doing? Things never make sense unless MM anticipates he will fail at drafting a good QB .. prob spent too much time with his calculator on Cousins
Thats the only scenario that makes any sense. If they dont draft a top guy, then this gm and coach have no idea wtf they are doing Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
so between McCown and Bridgewater we spent 25M this year. I think the 15M is max incentive related? Meh, still better then Bradford at 20M
It has to be incentive-based. You wouldn't give $15 mil guaranteed after giving the guy you just said was your starter $10 mil. And yes, even if it were straight up 15 and 10, it's better than signing Bradford.
Agreed, and yeah his base salary looks to be 5M Teddy is betting on himself big time. I surely don't mind it.
Thus, “option”. I’m confused why the Jets wouldn’t have given themselves a hedge in case Teddy does well. I assume Teddy didn’t want it. He’s betting on himself. Hopefully, if he does well he gives the Jets a favorable listen, if that happens.
have to love the way they throw around figures in nfl contracts like they mean anything - they should rework the old saying"there are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics" to be "there are lies, damn lies and then there are headline grabbing NFL contract numbers"
Making the assumption the Jets draft a QB, I see Bridgewater's position as a low investment lottery ticket and competition for Hackenberg. That might sound ridiculous but Hackenberg doesn't have Bridgewaters injury history. If Bridgewater is healthy then bye bye Hackenberg, but there's a real chance he doesn't make it through the preseason. So the Jets will default start McCown, have a rookie who, depending where he's drafted, will have opportunity to start but only if he clearly outperforms McCown AND Bridgewater, then Bridgewater who is a mega millions ticket play, then Hackenberg who is praying for Bridgewater to not make it, then Petty who is essentially disaster insurance at this point and may end up on the practice squad.
A peeve of mine. It’s criminal how little the low-end guys in the NFL are protected. In a league with so much injury-risk, to not guarantee contracts (for the little guys) is...poor.
I saw one mock last night on NFL channel by Jeremiah that had the following : 1. Browns - Darnold 2. Giants - Nelson 3. Bills (trade) - Allen 4. Browns - Barkley 5. Denver - Minkh Fittzpatric. which means Rosen will fall right on the Jets laps. If they don't grab him, they're brains have been taken over by extraterrestrials that are Pats fans.
I know he's good but do You really think a Guard goes #2 overall?!? Every website will probably post a new "mock" draft everyday up to the draft as clickbait
Petty & Hack need to be cut before the draft. I think that's universally agreed upon. They both serve no place on this team.
Your right, it's nothing but a carousel of who is the next in line to pick the brass ring, but with all the FA signings, it's at least getting less murkier as to who will pick who. I also don't agree about Nelson going at #2 if Barkley is there, though.
