I read he opted to do it, it's going to prevent him from making his case to be a top 5 pick, he is a natural at the LT position already. I take back my prediction of him being a top 15 pick as I knew he was having surgery and I forgot to take that into consideration, your right. Late first, but based on how good he plays the position already, he will probably turn out to be the best LT taken in this years draft. His upside is incredible!
He does have really good upside, and he's made most out of his opportunity. Went to UW-Stevens Point, transferred and became an All-American tackle. I think he's the best LT in this weak class. Technique wise he's ahead of Robinson in my opinion. Better footwork too.
Reiff didn't lose his job in any competition. The Lions drafted Decker in the 1st, who will be their LT of the future, where Reilly can play either T spot (which I like). It just made sense for them to shuffle, and they made that decision right away. Reiff is also like 7 yrs younger than Whitworth no? I wouldn't doubt Bolles going late 1st, early 2nd. also wouldn't mind trading up to get him. staying put in the 2nd hasn't worked out well for us
I thought they competed for the job, regardless you are correct. My intent really is to find a stop-gap for 1 yr then go for a LT in the draft next year. Money wise it'll be cheaper in the long-term and you continue to develop talent in-house. Whitworth won't be in the league for much longer, he's a good veteran presence and has had a resurgence, might be cheaper too. I agree about Bolles, Jets should entertain the thought of trading back up in the first and use Sheldon as trade bait along with our 2nd rounder. Either for a lineman or EDGE rusher. Hell they can have our 2nd rounders for the next 2 seasons, why the hell not
And that's just with starting one year at Wisconsin. I'd really love to see the Jets either trade down, take him, garner additional 2nd and 3rd round picks, and then be able to grab a pass rushing OLB, CB, FS, and RB with those 4 picks.
