Sure, they could have released any of the camp fodders... they wanted to get rid of the cap space and allow him to try to catch on another team, since that is the respectful thing to do for veteran that spent many yrs on the team. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah last year we made major mistake signing Kalil! He was done. As for the plenty on cap space, I think signing Clowney on 1 year as edge and difference maker, or keep the money in reserve if some veteran that gets cut, can help the team... or roll it over to next year. The only thing about this that surprises me is the timing. On one hand, I'm surprised that it took this long, but since they've held onto him this long, it might have paid to hold onto him through Wednesday, in case some starting OGs around the league opted out and some team was willing to trade a low-round draft pick for him. Was he due a roster bonus or something?
I understand that, and that's probably the best way to go. If they thought they had a legitimate shot at the playoffs, I could see adding Ryan or Clowney. If it's true that they see Ngakoue as one-dimensional, then he wouldn't be a good acquisition. Since they don't really have a shot at the playoffs, I think it's probably best at this point to just go with what they have. Let them battle it out, and roll the money over to next year to help when we have a lower cap. We'll probably have some FAs that JD will want to re-sign.
No.Stubbornly & At this point chronically sitting on our hands hoping in next draft an edge falls into our lap after 10 yrs of basically no pass rush..thats mediocrity. In fact its the very mentality that has us in the predicament all together.
Well we could have had Allen last year, we took another defensive tackle! It made me so upset! We had chance to draft a difference maker edge and we did not. And even more upsetting we could have had bosa, a generational talent, but we won meaningless game in buffalo! Being jet fan have to expect it, we could have had Marino, Rice, etc. some self inflicted some not Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Brian Winter: 2013 draft, #72 pick. Talk about "could of?" The Saints picked All Pro OT Terron Amstead at #75. .
Agree to disagree. But the Jets have not sat on their hands, they have traded for players, spent in free agency, and given up assets, and it has never worked. In 2019 an Edge did fall to the Jets, and Maccagnan didn't draft him. That's the real issue, previous GM player evaluations. Current management should not have to account for the failures of their predecessors, otherwise it is an endless cycle of overcompensation.
Douglas appears to be trying to trim as much as possible for next year with the expected drop in salary cap. I wonder if Avery Williamson might go next. It is doubtful with Mosley opting out but the FO seems much more focused on the long game and not this year.
