So you don't want to give Geno a chance, and have already declared him a "bust" before he even hits training camp. And then you say if he "comes around" we can trade him for a 1st round pick.... Hi welcome to Earth, you must be new here.
He pretty much summed it up... Geno is a bust.. You are an NFL Head Coach who knows how Geno will fair this season Get a first round pick for Geno in the future.. I love Sanchez.. Sounds about right..
First. How many teams had more than 1 starting QB last year. Don't know the answer but I'll take the over. Thus the premise of the headline is all emotion, no logic. It's what the media does. Second. Sanchez has not panned out as a draft choice. We all know this. The question now is whether he can be salvaged into a competent journeyman QB. Will he play better in a west coast offense? Some smart opinions say yes. Can he play well in big games? Yes, we saw it 3 & 4 years ago. Third. Gino. He's a project who needs time. Pretty strong arm. Needs to sit for a year and watch. Better for Gino and the Jets. Have to hope Sanchez plays well enough to allow that. Fourth. Jets need to run the ball credibly. To do so makes both Gino and Mark better QB's. No surprise that the Jets spent 2 UFA's and 3 draft picks on the OL. They have to be hoping that the 5 will bring 2 starting OG's. While it's not likely, Ducasse pushes that number to 6. Fifth. Idzik is waiting to see how bad the WR/TE mix is. He brought in Kellen Winslow and Obamanu. Neither is an answer but might plug holes. If this group can be brought up to the bottom third of the league, maybe the offense will surprise by being average. After last year, that would be a pleasant surprise. Sixth. Jets hope for season rests on the D. Here there is every reason to believe we can be successful. Success equals top 10 performance. Lots of #1's. Lots of talent. Known outstanding coaching. Seventh. Average offense getting good field position with a strong running game. Bunches of FG's win tight games. Jets 9-7 but don't make playoffs. Don't slit your wrists until game 5.
is the sky blue? is the pope catholic? only a matter of time until el taco loco sits. arizona game last year showed him being out-played by a 7th round draft pick. and you guys thought only vernon golston was a 1st round disaster.
When you miss on a 1st round QB it sets you back a bunch. When you refuse to admit that you missed on a 1st round QB you missed on? Well that just keeps the setbacks coming one after another until you finally admit that you missed on the QB and move on. The reason that the Ravens have Joe Flacco is they admitted defeat on the Kyle Boller pick after 2005 and went and got Steve McNair to play QB for them. Then Boller got some more starts in 2007 when McNair was hurt but the Ravens already knew they were drafting a QB in 2008, which they did. The reason the Panthers have Cam Newton is that they admitted defeat on the Jimmy Clausen pick after one season of watching him play. Newton was not an obvious #1 pick at all and the pick generated some controversy but the Panthers had already seen enough out of Clausen to know they needed to go get a QB and they did. One of the things the Jets are not good at, and have not been good at since Parcells left town, is cutting their losses. You have to burn the dead wood away before anything can grow. I understand why the Jets signed Bryan Thomas last year and why they got Calvin Pace back this year. Those moves however have slowed down the necessary change of pace at LB that the Jets need to go through if that defense is going to become special again. I understand why they kept Sanchez last year after the events of 2009-2011. I don't understand why they're keeping him this year though. His presence is just slowing down the pace of the necessary change at QB. If Sanchez was just a guy in the mix who'd never had a lot of playing time then I'd understand the hesitation to just let him go. He was a 1st round pick and it's hard to let go of that and admit that you missed on the pick. As the presumptive starter and with as much water under the bridge as we have with him he's a negative overall presence on the team. Just look at what his presence did to Nick Mangold. When asked the question what was he supposed to say?
