I would complain about Keller and Washington not getting enough touches cuz they didn't but we scored 27 fucking points, so it's hard to complain. This one is all on the D, and hopefully this humbles them, because (we all know) they ain't this bad, no way.
*yawn* We got manhandled today. The offense, while aided by retarded penalties that should have never been called, was not the problem. Talk to Rex and his defense.
I mean Keller had Yeremiah Bell on him. This was the same guy who got shook to the next planet by Tony Gonzalez week 1. This was the bread and butter matchup for this game, and Schotty refused to use this. Gabril Wilson is a pure run stopper at safety, he has always been a suspect at best pass coverage safety so there is another guy upon Keller. Leon was burning in this game, I don't know where he went. Part of the late qtr non Leonness was because the Phins controlled the clock but I don't get how he doesn't get used as a receiver around the 10 yd range. We did it once and it worked out well....I dont know why it didn't get put up again.
I understand your beef....really I do. But i'm thinking Schotty doesn't have 100% confidence in Sanchez yet....to beat teams solely on his arm. He's only 5 games into the season.....from an experience standpoint...he's clearly overachieved. As the season progresses....hopefully Schotty turns Sanchez loose.
I didn't mind what I saw from Mark. The O-Line was suspect at best(Some good stops and bad ones.....though I am getting sick of Woody at RT. Lion fans weren't kidding when they said he cannot pass block). This was probably Sanchez 3rd best pro game so far. He had 2-3 really bad ones(The allen near INT, Wilson missed one and he overthrew Keller)....along with maybe the behind throw to Braylon. But really Sanchez did work in the final 2 mins of the 1st half and when he led that final drive(Before his poor hail mary drive....) and he faced a really bad Phins secondary(Well young) so I was surprised he didnt put upon someone like Keller or Washington past the 10 yds and work it that way.
I wonder if this could be more of Sanchez just getting locked into Edwards. Although, I guess how could you not with the spectacular catches he was making.
Are you being serious here now? The goddamn O managed 27 points on the road and with our no 1 receiver held back with an injury. Sanchez and Schotty utilized the matchup nightmare with Edwards. We burned the Miami D with Clowney's speed and kept the defense honest with a solid running game. The reason why those guys were open was because Miami identified Keller as the number one threat and double covered him all game long, just like Tennesee did and remeber that allowed Cotch to have a big game then. If my O could manage 27 points on the road with a rookie QB at helm on a constant basis, I wouldn't give a rats ass if it was the the goddamn second string FB who did all the scoring. Bitching about the O and Schottenheimer is retarded when the only reason why we lost was the D's putrid performance and Rex's ineptitude to make adjustments.
We did get bailed out by special teams twice on 4th downs, and we got 2 BS calls on huge interference penalties that never happened, but the bottom line is: our offense delivered. 27 points is nothing to sneeze at. All we needed is average or slightly below average showing by defense, and we win this easily. Can't blame Shotty.
Edwards got us 3 TDs. 1 catch in end zone, 1 at 1 yard line, and another interference penalty at 4 yard line. Why not get locked on him? Edwards delivered. It's defense that was atrocious. Our coaches simply did not prepare for wildcat.
I've been defending Schotty, but our offense still seems to be missing a step. I know our defense is the reason we lost, but if our offense played just a little better, we would of won. Too many phantom calls, that we won't get once Hispanic Heritage month is over. We got lucky with 2 fake punts. I agree with OP, Schotty needs to call better plays. More screens. More play-action short passes to Keller or a slot receiver.
Again the pts total doesn't mean jacksquat since 2 of the Jets scoring drives came off of 4th qtr gambles that shoulden't even be necessarily used in any fashion if the offense can click. Thats like having a sick punt return or kickoff return and then punching it in. Its a job well done but its something you cannot fall back on all the time. I mean all year long(And past 2 years) I've been sick of Schotty. This isn't just from today all of a sudden. I've seen this same stuff since 2006, thats my major gripe. Even in wins, I get angry sometimes at some of these playcalls.
Are you kidding me? Shotty was fine tonight. No issues at all with how he called things. Who do you want as OC, Skynet?
my main gripe with the offense is sanchez needs to distribute the ball better. it seems he only has one target in mind each play.
The first one wasn't even a designed fake, Weatherford just decided to run with it, which was evident that none of the guys downfield, the headhunters or the blockers had an idea Steve was running with it. Plus the second call was just pure genius by Westhoff, it was a 4th and short just out of fieldgola range and it was a good call. And in 2006 Schotty did a remarkable job with the personel he had. Just look at the roster and that team had no bussiness being in the middle of the pack in the offensive stats, let alone being in the playoffs.
I agree that 06 was the best year(Had some dud games though as far as the playcalling went vs CHI and vs BUF) but his 07(I gave him the excuse because that O-Line was just downright god awful...no man can succeed with that) and the 08(Specifically 2nd half of 08) was downright insulting. And 2009 hasn't been much better than 08.
Not sure how many of you every played or are students of the games. However, there is a progression of reads when the ball is snapped. Almost every play called is a pass/run option unless you do WC or Seminole or some other BS direct snap to RB (but I digress). As the play develops, the QB makes the reads on whom is open. It doesn't matter if its play action or screen. If WR1 is open or gets separation, the ball goes there. if WR2 is open, ball goes there, WR3, TE, RB, etc. It pretty much the same process on each play unless a strict run play is called. So if Keller has a defender draped over him for 60 minutes, why sould MS try to thread the needle. If the def double coverages BE and J-Co is open then the ball goes to J-CO. The Fish probably had someone on DK all night knowing the type of threat he can be. J-Co was hampered by an injury, so the ball went to Clowney and Edwards. Thats just it. Next game the Jills may not get good coverage on DK and he may be open all night. So he may look like Tony Gonzales next week. It all depends on how the play develops. You can't blame Schotty 100% for under utilizing a player if that player has heavy coverage.
The person that started this thread is a fuckin idiot... I'm not the biggest shotty fan but good game our wr core is more a threat now an they opened the field hand off was right call at dat point we can't get greene leon an they in if miami murding the leage in time off possesion they played a good game hats off 2 miami we need pick our game up next week is even more important
You shouldn't call someone an idiot after the grammar that was displayed in this post my man.............. I would like to comment on it but I simply just can't.
I have to agree somewhat with the OP here, though I see it's an unpopular opinion. Yes, the offense did a very admirable job putting up 27 on the road today, and I don't think they take any blame for the loss, but Schotty still seems to be hesitant to let Sanchez go when push comes to shove and does seem to make some baffling choices at times. Although in the first two weeks it seemed that they were giving Sanchez some more looks downfield, lately it seems like they've been constricting the playbook and keeping the offense a little more roped in. Correct me if I'm wrong - I haven't looked at the numbers. I realize that he did throw a few good deep balls today and I thought he played very well, but I can't help but wish that they would let him go a little more and give us a better potential for the big play more often. Maybe it's just the O line not holding protection long enough. I also wondered why Greene mysteriously disappeared again tonight. That said it was the D that lost the game today, no question.
The Bears game was a horrible performance by the O, not getting one single point on the board at home, but it was against the best D in '06. Didn't see the Buffalo game, if you mean the game late in the season which we should've won but lost. I agree with you on what happened in 2007 with the line and that Schotty can't be blamed for that, but in '08 he had to simplify the playbook for Favre and he had mister Mangenious holding him back which was evident with the games in Oakland and vs the Chiefs, for example. Plus, having an injured QB for the latter part of the season can't help either. Here in 2009, I think Schotty has fared well with the rookie, no complaints.
