I've seen mixed reviews this week on Leonard. From what I saw on NFLN, I said he was going down on first contact, while another guy wrote he ran through the trash pretty well. One thing that was consistant in my readings were that he did struggle with his blocking... but after that, very mixed.

Same thing for Hunt. Some good reports, some bad. One guy says he looks half-hearted and lacksadasical, the next guy says he's running well. One report said he wasn't taking well to the coaching.

Whether it;s fair or not, these players will drop or go up a lot based on how they look in drills and practice, even more so than the game itself.

The pressure is on, and they are getting a lot thrown at them. That's part of the idea.

I think Leonard is making a mistake trying to go into the draft as an RB. He jsut doesn't have the right tool set. He's a niche player, a FB that can do more than most FB's can do. By losing so much weight, he can't be as effective as a lead blocker. As a FB, he's probably an early round 3 pick. As an RB, he's going to drop at least into the 4th round, in part because he can't showcase what he does best at this playing wieght.

I think its a case of an agent getting the best of him. He can make more as a HB than a FB so I think thats why hes slimmed down.

And it seems like theres varying opinions on Leonard. One source says hes struggling, another source says hes the best "back" on the field with excellent hands, and John Gruden has fallen in love with the kid and loves his versatility. Mind you all of this is being said through only 3 days of practice. Im more of a proponent of what the player has done through his college career as opposed to what hes done in 5 days. Thats why I wanted D'Brick regardless of how he performed at the Senior Bowl and thats why I was fuming when the Giants drafted Sinorice Moss. Sinorice sucked in college but all because he performed well in the Senior Bowl and big brother Santana had a good year, he got drafted high(he was a day 2 kinda guy IMO and i do remember people on this board wanting Sinorice in the 2nd rd). The only people who should really benefit from the Senior Bowl are guys who played for boonie schools that no one knows about.

I think Leonard could be an OK RB in the NFL, but I think he has more upside if he puts on enough weght (like up to 235+) and becomes a FB

Another thing, I think he's targetting the Combine as his true showcase at this weight, he probably just wanted to get experience playing around this size. If what I heard was correct, he should be able to put on quite a show at the Combine, especially with few other great athletes at the RB position this year.

he wont make it as a RB. so you Rutgers fans can make excuses for his dropped weight. he was best suited as an H-Back. im very surprised hes going to try to be a RB.

and im not picking on you Hurricane, but I think theres alot of blind loyalty to him because of where he played. i was extatic about him being an H-Back he wouldve made a team very happy taking carries and catching out of the backfield. but no way he becomes anything more, a full time RB? i find it hard to believe.

After a slow start, Rutgers RB Brian Leonard picked up the pace in Wednesday's practice session. While he's not a traditional fit as a running back or fullback, the bottom line is that he's a good football player who can do an awful lot of things well. He will be an excellent special teams player as a rookie and contribute in just about every facet of that part of the game. He is acting as the punter's personal protector this week and could excel in that role in the NFL. Leonard is an intelligent, hard-nosed runner who catches the ball well and is a fine pass-blocker. He can help on short-yardage situations and third downs. While some teams will drop him on their draft boards due to his lack of a specialization, teams like Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Detroit, Green Bay and Arizona should really like what they see.

So apparantly he bounced back today and Mike Mayock said that he would be surprised if hes still there after the second round. So let the Brian Leonard lovers celebrate.
