^Those are unverified rumors. Nothing in those articles suggest Rex was the reason. Both articles said that it was speculated to be cap reasons. It's too early to judge Idzik. Any GM knew that coming in would be a tough job. We'll see in a few years.
We can't really judge Idzik until year 3 or 4. For now he's done a decent job. I like his competition mantra and I like that he treats draft picks like gold. The only thing I don't like is that Idzik seems to treat different positions differently. Like for example IMO the WR corp is more stable than the safety corp yet he's quick to cut some decent receivers (Braylon, Obomanu, Massaqui) while leaving the safety corps as is.
I wouldn't say any of those guys were viewed as better GM prospects than Idzik. This is pure speculation and/or trolling.
A GMs first order of business is -hire a head coach Once you strap them with that it is a turn off Idzik should have been able to get his own guy so the two of them can build together and have the proper chemistry for team building Woody honestly needs to go Inept ownership will not lead you to a championship
I agree about Woody, but who says Idzik and Rex don't have chemistry or won't have chemistry once we start winning?
True he lacks a lot mentally I mean he's a great defensive coach but as a leader he's more like one of the guys
I couldn't get past the 2nd paragraph of that article simply because once you really believe that the coach is gone the next year , and if the team is advancing and making strides, putting another coach in is going to set this team back another 5 years. Rex happens to be one of the 5 best defensive coaches in the league, and no matter what the haters may think, he took the team to the finals his 1st two years. If Sanchez hadn't imploded with his terrible QB'ing , I believe the Jets could have been in the playoffs the last 2 years, at the least. All this nonsense that they need a head coaching change is complete BS.
A true deffinition of a leader is one that has his players giving 110% for him on the playing field. All the players that have been interviewed by the media say they love to play for the man, partly because he's very intelligent at what he does and is a hard nose for getting the best out of his players abilities. If there are a few of those that confront their leader/HC in a negative fashion, then the leadership qualities come into question. So tell me then, what players on the Jets don't fall into that category that would make you say 'he's one of the guy's"? Don't give us that nonsense about the last 2 bad years the team had...that can't just be blamed on Rex.
the safety corp is made up of young guys with potential. now the wr corps is too. braylon was cut because he has no upside. if you look at who was cut Peterman, Braylon and Garay . all older guys who have peaked. They could have been ok for this year but that was the most you were going to get from them. Parcells used to call these guys progress stoppers. Idzik doesn't seem to believe in the stopgap players. its refreshing after the last regime Thank You
Pete Carroll, Rich Kottite, Al Groh, Herm Edwards, Eric Mangini. He has a short fucking leash to pick a good coach if he fires Rex. Rex is the best thing to happen to this franchise since Tuna. If he fucks this up I want his head on a platter!
What if the young guys end up sucking? That's why having a Braylon around is good. I can see next year going with the young guys once they PROVE they're actually NFL players.
I have no reason to praise Idzik until he exceeds what Tannenbaum accomplished. If he can get the Jets past the AFC Championship game then he exceeds Mike. If we never get there that then he is no better than Mike. Realistically, Idzik will be lucky to get the Jets back to the AFC Championship at least once. Hopefully he can build a team good enough to get there, but im not going to praise him over offseason additions/subtractions.
Overly critical no but.. all he does is paint a gloomy picture for the reason to get rid of the head coach... he 2nd guesses himself - he loves Rex but wants to get rid of him anyway, lol. Sounds like many of the fans here  He states that it 's pretty much going to be an up and down season, (which is quite obviously going to happen with any team going with a rookie QB that has never been exposed to the WCO and NFL defensive schemes) and expects Rex to be fired because of it? So, if that is the case, I do see the possibility that the Jets draft another QB in 2014, fire Rex, and bring in another coach that will have lead the Jets to another losing season with more growing pains. A franchise that exists only to do infinite 5 year rebuilding terms...the Jets.
what if they end up being good? unless you keep them around how do you find out? its all about keeping potential. better to cut a guy a year erly than a year late. eventually you will have guys stepping up when the vet in front of him ages or prices himself off the team. we as fans have to get use to this very un-tanny approach
I'm saying that we should keep vets as insurance policies in case the young guys can't produce. I'm not saying to keep Braylon in favor of Spadola. I'm saying keep Braylon in case Spadola sucks once the games count, so that way Braylon can step in.
The problem with that is that there's limited roster space. You'd have to cut a RB or a linebacker or an O-lineman or something, and it's a tradeoff.
I'm sorry but Tannenbaum is why we're in this position. The years of trading picks, rotating players every year, signing guys to deals they don't deserve was all him, and is why we're stuck in a rebuild mode. If Idzik cleans up this mess, he has already exceeded what Tannenbaum did.
