This is premature (the season isn't even over yet) but I have to ask. What leads you to believe that this stance is any different than the one that GB took last year? Are you serious? Really? I mean, I guess I can't really prove that the sun will come up tomorrow, but ... come on. For your benefit, I'm just gonna give you the benefit of the doubt & assume you don't know all the ugly details here.

That's not speculation...um... that's fact. Ted Thompson himself said to the media "Brett Favre will not come back as a starter, maybe some other role but he will not be a starter". I guess you could say that Ted Thompson and the Packers would have had him back as a backup or as a waterboy. Is that the speculation you're talking about?
When asked about the future, favre responds: "This could be my last 3 or 4 games.". Ok, so what have we learned? Nothing new here folks. The media is just begining the speculation yet again. I like it best the way Mark Schlareth said it: "Look, media, lets leave Old #4 alone, and ask him in June/July, when you know for sure he has his mind made up. What the media has been doing with the will he and wont he thing for years has been an embarassment. We can all give opinions, but let Brett make his decision when he wants too." See, Mark can say some good things now and then. Leave brett alone. ALl he is thinking about, really, is the next handful of games, not the future. When the season is over, and reassess himself, what he can do, and his chances of another SB run with the jets, then he will make up his mind. I Doubt the jets will pressure him like TT did to make a decision early. They may in fact do all they can to convince him to come back, that is, if Favre really does factor big in winning a playoff game or two. That would be huge: #4 coming up big when it matters most. A LOT of media pundants already said the superbowl they want to See Is the Jets against anybody, strictly to give favre a shot to try and pull a John Elway.
To answer both of your questions: ------------------ Puddinhead: Are you serious? Really? I mean, I guess I can't really prove that the sun will come up tomorrow, but ... come on. For your benefit, I'm just gonna give you the benefit of the doubt & assume you don't know all the ugly details here. ------------------ ----------------- To make myself clear: when I was talking about speculation by the Packers (that they didn't want Favre) I was talking about a timeframe directly after last season - in the February - March period. This was when they were apparently waiting for Favre's decision. I was not refering to the July - September "faisco period" where it became obvious that the Packers had made the decision to go with Rogers.
The funny part is he makes sense on most other Jet related topics, but when it comes to Chad he's belligerent and telling everyone what they think.
You only use the term belligerent because I am happy to see Chad leave, not happy that Chad Fans prattle on about him endlessly, and say so. Telling everyone what they think? I may characterize what I think others are saying, but that's hardly the same thing. And of course that Pennington envy claim is baseless and even inexplicable.
It's possible we're in agreement over the same thing. But in order to know that, I need to know what time-frame we're talking about. I also need to know if we agree on what I think transpired. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Brett Favre retired. He announced this in a tearful, sobbing Press Conference in which the electronics in the amlpifier almost short circuited due to all the water running down from the microphone. Okay, so he retired. The Packers told him, "We're sorry to hear that, but Good Luck." Then, Favre announced that he might like to come back. Or be released to go wherever he wanted. THIS IS THE POINT IN TIME to which I'm referring... right there... freeze that frame. What I'm saying is, I don't see Tannenbaum leaving any door open after if and when he announces his retirement. What happened in Green Bay after Favre "unretired" was that (a) they were afraid he'd go to the Vikings so (b) they offered him a non-starting role. And the three ring circus took off from there and we all know the rest of the story. So that is the time-frame I'm talking about. I think, at the moment FAvre walks into Mangini's office and says, "I'm returing coach," Mangini and Tannenbaum will both wish him well and that will be the end of that. What I'm saying is, you're not going to see the on-again-off-again bullshit here, even if Favre threatens to go to NE or the BIlls or wherever. Tangini should and will move on. And Favre's too smart not to know that too. So maybe we're talking about the same time-frame and maybe we agree? I don't know.
My preference is, I'd like to get one more year out of Brett. That makes the most sense economically, it makes the most sense for team morale, and it gives us much-needed time to groom whoever TF is going to be our "franchise QB," which in my mind is the most pressing thing on the agenda save for getting to this year's SB and winning it.
It makes sense to me.:rofl2: Problem is you were like this towards "Chad Fans" before he left, so that argument doesn't hold up. You seem to have a problem with Jet fans who rooted for their own QB for years and developed a loyalty to a guy who took us to the playoffs three times. Plus you like to paint us all with the same brush just because of it. Most of us just want to see the Jets win.
6 yrs. of McNabb > 1 more year of Favre strike while the iron is hot... although for some reason I think the Redskins will sign him...
From what i've been watching, Favre was right about retiring last season. Go mow your lawn, Brett. See ya.
I was thinking about McNabb too. If the Eagles decide to get rid of him and Favre retires, would you guys want to go after him? I definitely would.
One of my favorite Favre moments this year was his touchdown pass to Coles vs. Tennessee. I put a small dent in my wall. Normally you hit your wall when you are mad, but it pumped me up so much, I still am not sure why I turned to the wall though.
haha - fair enough. The guy is a top 10 QB when healthy. He runs the most pass heavy offense in the league too. He'd probably be even more effective in a more balanced offense.
I like this senario but it will on depend on how we finish these last 2 or hopefully more games. The one thing which I think is hitting us right in the face just now is that Clemens is not the guy to take over. QB is our top need next year lets hope we can pick up a Flacco or a Cutler. The type of QB Ryan is turning in to isn't going to be available anytime soon.
