This is great news. I can't wait to watch him throw 25 picks again next year, and cost us a whole bunch of games like he did this year. He's good for about ten turnover points to the other team each game.
Let's look at Favre's arm from an everyman perspective. If anyone here has ever played any kind of ball, baseball, football, etc. and had an arm injury, you would know that even though you can maintain some range of motion, you just aren't right and this causes throws to be softer, less accurate and eventually, it weighs on you. Baseball has the 15 day DL if a pitcher has a sore shoulder. I would agree that if Favre's shoulder was hurting, it would cause less accurate passes. Why let him continue to go out there is another story. That is on management.
Wait...... I can see being pissed at his poor performance / stupid INTs, but now he's responsible for the bad playcalling too?
I bet he dictated the play calling and either way it was his decision to throw the ball when and where he did, TO THE OTHER TEAM, or way behind his targets!!!
I think if Favre is given a full offseason with these guys and a full offseason to prepare physically for the season and if we can get him a coach he can work with we do great things in 2009.
LOL, I hear you. But won't it be fun to watch Cowher on the sidelines if Brett starts that shit? I don't care if he is Brett Freakin' Favre, he'd better run to the opposite sideline if he knows what's good for him. Cowher will grab him by the collar and start spraying in his face.
Mangini rolls his eyes watching Favre throw the INTs and that's the end of it. Cowher rolls his tongue, hocks up a ginder, and starts spraying spit in your face. Old Number 4 will stop throwing the ball up after that shower, I guarantee it.
I think you are having a WET dream!!! Yeah and it really should have to come to that with the great legend.
An injury doesn't explain throwing a ball right into Phillip Merling's hands An injury doesn't explain throwing across your body on the run into double coverage against Seattle An injury doesn't explain trying to hurry up the offense and lobbing a pass over the head of your WR against Miami. Sorry, this injury excuse just doesn't explain the multitude of brain farts this guy had. The guy has been atrocious three out of the last four seasons- I'm confident 2007 was the aberration. Like others have said, he needs his head examined more than his arm.
I think that would be a great combination. It's good for Woody too... people will be lined up to buy his cockamamie PSLs. Unfortunately for me, I won't be one of them.
Longtime Packer fan here. I posted this in another thread, but thought it would fit in well here as well. I've been a Favre supporter for years, but his time has come to retire. It's not the coaching or the "injury" to Favre that caused him to fall off the planet at the end of the year. Favre has run out of gas for the last 4 years. It started in 2005. I'm really surprised no one has mentioned this before. Here are his stats for the last 6 games of each year: Date - Attempt, Completions, Yards, TD, Int, QB Rating 2005: 11/27 - 15 Att, 33 Comp, 171 Yds, 1 TD, 2 INT, 46.4 QB Rating 12/04 - 31, 58, 277, 2, 2, 52.2 12/11 - 21, 31, 170, 1, 3, 67.9 12/19 - 14, 29, 144, 0, 2, 34.3 12/25 - 30, 41, 317, 0, 4, 44.3 01/01 - 21, 27, 259, 1, 1, 76.3 2006: 11/27 - 22, 36, 266, 1, 3, 58.3 12/03 - 24, 47, 214, 1, 2, 53.0 12/10 - 22, 34, 293, 2, 0, 111.5 12/17 - 20, 37, 174, 0, 3, 32.9 12/21 - 26, 50, 285, 0, 2, 52.5 12/31 - 21, 42, 285, 1, 1, 70,0 2007: 11/22 - 31, 41, 381, 3, 0, 128.2 11/29 - 5, 14, 56, 0, 2, 8.9 12/09 - 15, 23, 266, 2, 1, 115.5 12/16 - 19, 30, 225, 2, 2, 80.6 12/23 - 17, 32, 153, 0, 2, 40.2 12/30 - 9, 11, 99, 2, 0, 143.8 2008: 11/23 - 25, 32, 224, 2, 1, 103.6 11/30 - 23, 43, 147, 0, 1, 60.9 12/07 - 20, 31, 137, 0, 1, 60.8 12/14 - 17, 30, 207, 1, 2, 61.4 12/21 - 18, 31, 187, 0, 2, 48.7 12/28 - 20, 40, 233, 1, 3, 45.1 In the 24 games mentioned (the last 6 for each of the last 4 years), he has had 5 great games(QB rating over 100) (2 were against Detroit and one against Oakland last year). He has had 2 Average games (Rating between 75 and 100) He has had 17 Bad games (QB rating lower than 75). Out of the same 24 games, he has only gone 2 games without throwing an interception, yet has gone 10 games without throwing a touchdown. He has also thrown 21 TD's and 42 Interceptions in those last 24 games. I have loved Favre for many years, but the facts is the facts.. he is old and cannot play a full season. He is useless at the end of the year during crunch time and in the playoffs. Has been since 2005. Also, I notice many of the most ardent Favre supporters on this site (like Determination#4) joined in Aug 2008... anything significant happen at that time?? Oh yeah, Favre was traded to the Jets. Many of them (not all) are just that Favre supporters and will support him no matter how he plays.
Thank you harshreality, you're a rare breed around here. Most of the Packers fans (or former Packer fans) made every excuse imaginable for his declining play. You know better than us, Favre was not good in 2005 or 2006 either and the offense didn't seem to slow down too much with Rodgers this year either. You guys are lucky you don't need to deal with the Favre media circus in the offseason- I'm envious.
