Anyone else surprised there hasn't been an announcement on Breno (cut) or Brick (restructure) yet?? I would have thought clearing up cap space would be top priority. They got me wondering.. I hope there's something up their sleeve (Spoiler: there isn't.)
I believe that once the start of fa comes to an end then all the top spots will be filled and the big money contracts paid. Mac would then have the upper hand in negotiations bc hey who else is going to pay you xyz?
this, plus there is no reason to redo contracts until you have to. the less we have to manipulate now the healthier the cap will be going forward
When someone says "go with an unproven guy and/or cheaper stopgap RT" all I can think of is WAYNE HUNTER.
D'Brick contract should be restructured. Cut Breno you save $5.3 mil. Option Ryan Harris or Donald Penn stop gap options at 1 year contract. Draft Jason Spriggs or Shon Coleman start them at RT.
Interesting, I wonder if he we are able to afford to sign him to compete for starting LT and restructure Brick. Cutting Brick outright could always happen too, although it would be a pretty ballsy move considering hes coming off an ACL tear- Steelers fan seem high on him tho.
Steelers want him back, and both the Ravens and Jets are interested. those 3 front offices know what they're doing imo, so i'm interested. has done well for a former 7th rounder... at 303 lbs, he is better suited at LT tho, and i saw that quote saying he sees himself only as a LT, even tho he played some RT initially with the Steelers. he'll be expensive too for sure. if they cut him, sounds like a straight up Brick replacement to me. I'd rather cut Breno and keep a restructured Brick, but we need youth and talent at T, so i'd be onboard with signing Beachum.
DBrick's contract is the worst on the jets for the production you get from him--I say cut DBrick after June 1--he's just a shell of what he used to be and not worth the huge contract that the jets foolishly gave him.
Yeah that makes sense but what would be the point of doing it after FA is over? As in if the good talent is gone what would we need cap space for?
It doesn't stop US from making moves. A deal can still be agreed upon with top talent. There just hasn't been anyone that we've deemed an upgrade for the right price. It's not like Mac saying shoot I really wanted to sign ko for 11m a year but I can't do it bc I still need to cut some people.
hmmm..... from cbs http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...er-context-and-other-free-agency-observations
I don't think this is a likely scenario since Brick is the weakest run blocker on the team and traditionally you want your RT to be a good run blocker.
This is exactly what will happen if Beachum is signed.......D'Brick gets released end of story. It will be sad and the end of a pretty amazing run - 10 consecutive seasons without a single missed snap. But it makes too much sense financially speaking.... Mac was hired to build a long term winner and you need to save money wherever it's logical. Replacing a 32 year old LT who is past his prime with an up and coming 26 year old for less money is what needs to be done here......
