The doctor will do an anterior drawer test on the sideline, which will reveal a bad tear with a high degree of accuracy. The imaging is usually only to officially confirm the findings of the drawer test. If the Jets (Saleh) are saying they think it's an ACL, the outlook is "not good", and that it's a "serious injury", it's almost guaranteed that the drawer test was conclusive on the sideline about a tear. Hope I'm wrong or there's something I'm missing, but to have him go to the tent, then carted off, ruled out almost immediately, and have Saleh specifically mention the ACL and that it's "not good" in the postgame suggests the drawer test showed a clear tear and that the MRI is just a formality. F*CK. Breece was showing he's a franchise cornerstone type player in this league, not even halfway through his rookie season. F*CK.
Ooof. Thanks for your expertise. I was hoping against hope that it was not as bad as feared, but this rings true. If so, put him on the shelf for next year and let’s see if MC and ZW can step up.
This win today, as "gutsy" as it was... is bittersweet. I'd trade the W for a healthy Breece in a heartbeat.
I'm certainly no expert, but just wanted to point out that it's not really a guessing game or the doctor's opinion of what happened that the Jets are working with. There's a specific test that that can be performed right away to check for an ACL tear, and I'm 100% positive they did it in the tent - it's SOP in these cases. Saleh's postgame comments and tone aren't based on the replay looking bad, Breece being in pain, a gut feeling, or anything like that. They're based on the results of the drawer test that was performed in the tent. I'd still love Breece to be an anomaly and get news like the Zach injury. But, if you'll recall, at this same point in time with the injury to Wilson there were tweets coming from insiders saying, "Jets believe they've avoided worst case scenario with Zach Wilson's knee" but that the MRI would confirm. That's drawer test results. With Hall, you have Saleh saying it's not good and a serious knee injury. I really just want to be wrong.
This is a real kick in the nuts, and I feel terrible for Breece. Was on his way to a possible ROY award. But I loved what I saw from MC last season, and feel the same way this year. That kid is a baller and I think we’ll be ok at RB with him and Johnson getting the bulk of the carries .. as long as we can find enough competent, healthy O linemen. Which I am infinitely more concerned about at this point. Without AVT, we are decimated up front.
Sadly, you're probably right. The kid looks overrated so far in his young career. It's not as much about needing more reps and experience as it is just not having "it". Hasn't show it yet.
Also keep in mind that Breece will most likely return to the form we've all fallen in love with through these first 7 games of his career... ...but not next year. He'll play sometime next season if all goes well, but guys coming back from ACL surgery usually aren't themselves until the second year following the repair. Dalvin Cook, Saquon Barkley, etc. Really happy for the win, really sad about this injury. Hopeful there are enough pieces in place to not have the whole good vibes ride we've been on to start the season go to sh*t.
Thing is I campaigned for him and prior to the season even started a thread about him expressing my enthusiasm, but I was wrong. The kid is not the goods. I see it clearly. He's not an 2nd overall type of game changer.
Rewatched the hit... #2 Surtain absolutely targeted...and #22 Jackson came in on the hit also. Shit needs at least a fine.
Kinda grasping at straws and hoping for the best but I’m sure we would have known if his ACL was torn by now. Maybe it’s just partially or something. I’m sad.
My thoughts exactly. This injury takes away all the fun in winning yesterday. Absolutely demoralizing
Sad. Team still not watchable for me. Glad they're winning. D coming along. Zach not turning it over and not pp Aying particularly well. None in that qb class really is. No...Mac Jones is solid.
Didn't want to come right out and say it but yea, it’ll be extremely challenging to score points without him.
Doesn't the test check just if it is an ACL injury not conclusively a tear? Could be stretched, partial tear or full tear?
We dodged a bullet with Zach and now I'm hoping we dodge a bullet with Breece. If we do I'm going to sacrifice a goat or something to the football gods because that would be unbelievably good news. If we could get him back in six weeks or so, just in time for a playoff push at the end of the year... I'm feeling pessimistic, though. They usually know very quickly if the ACL has been damaged.
I could be wrong, but I believe the amount of play in the tibia is a dead giveaway of the full tear. Basically, if the the leg is immobilized and the lower leg can shift away from the upper leg beyond a certain point, it's clear there's no longer a ligament attaching the tibia and femur.
