John Abraham IS Worth more than that. Why ? An Elite, Pass rushing, Pro-Bowl Caliber DE is Very hardto find. THAT SAID: His value is diminished due to the Fact that he No longer wants to be here and Will not be a part of our team. So to get a #9 for him at this point is a no Brainer. I am not crazy about adding the 3rd maybe they can get that pick lowered but, You take this deal ESPECIALLY since it's the best offer we've gotten.
we are losing a 3rd rounder to get rid of abe, true we get a 1st rounder which equals what abe is, but we lose out on a high pick in a 3rd rounder that could help us get a quality type player, abe wont be making 8 mil when he signs his long term deal. in my opinion we are losing more than we are gaining
Yeah but we have 3 compensatory picks coming our way and they are for LaMont and Kareem so there's a good chance one of them will be in the 3rd....
The possibilities would be unlimited with the 4 and 9. It would also bring some serious kick ass excitement to the franchise!!! Could you imagine JETS fans on draft day? I may have to drive up from Kentucky if this trade happens.
I heard this rumor from my source. Lions send us #9..we send them Abraham, the Herm #4 and the fire hydrant Abraham hit.
But our Compensatory picks cannot be traded and will be at the End of the said round. So even if we do get a comp 3rd we have to give up our initial 3rd which will be much higher!
yet we dont know for sure, a high third rounder is better than a low 3rd rounder, thats almost getting a second day player
A couple of things to consider: 1) Abe's value is slightly raised thanks to the whole CBA issue. He can't go anywhere, regardless of not wanting to be here. If we choose to keep him, he can't sit and pout, since he is a franchise tag player, and he needs to be on his best behavior now. 2) With a #4 and a #9, where do you plan on pulling out the money to pay them from? We are under the cap right now, but not by a whole helluva lot. 3) We are getting the short end of the stick here boys. Don't be so overwhelmed by your desire to bounce Abe and get someone like Hawk. Realistically, if the trade were Abe and our #4, for their #9 and next year's 1st rounder, then yeah, I would pounce on it. Otherwise, Abe and a 3rd round pick is worth at least getting 2 late picks back from Detroit this year. I am really glad the organization hires professionals to make these decisions.
You are failing to realize, like many have already pointed out before me. Abe's deminishing value, and conversely the enormous value of a top 10 pick. Espeically in this draft. Espeically to us. Yes we lose an extra draft pick. But we further the likelyhood of coming out of this draft with two blue-chip prospects that could conceivably make a tremendous impact not only in furture years, but also this year.
But if it doesn't come true, blame my source, not me. Legally this is referred to as the "JetsTV Defense".
Irrespective, they are not far off from a deal. It would be great to pick up the #9 overall. We could really put together a helluva one-two offensive punch.
How is Abe's value raised, when the majority of teams who would be interested in him if the CBA is not extended have to bow out of the bidding due to cap concerns? And we could keep him on the team regardless if the CBA was extended or not.
We aren't losing a third rounder, we are upgrading from a third round pick to the 9th overall in exchange for Abe. Not only do we get to upgrade to a significantly better pick in an amazingly rich draft, but we clear Abraham's cap number in the process. Would you rather have Patrick Ramsey and the third round pick?!? :breakdance:
