You misunderstood. You were drinking Duvel OUT OF A BOTTLE. There are hundreds of amazing Dutch and Belgian beers on tap that are made locally that blow away anything you can get in a bottle. For example, here is the States, I find Heineken to always taste a bit skunked. I never drink it here (unless it's the only beer served at a freaking golf outing I go to every year). In Holland, Heineken is crisp and clean and a totally different beer than the beer here. And the locals don't even drink it. It's like their Bud Light. Try any tapped lager/pilsner from Holland or Belgium and you'll love it. Skip the stuff in bottles. You can get that here. It's as if you're going to a Macaroni Grille in Florence. _

They try to steer the argue to religion for pages after ignoring all the contrarian evidence of how the constitution is deep rooted in scientific method and purposefully rejected any notion that it was a document based on anything other than those methods and common reason. Now their whole argument turns to just calling it bullshit with no facts why and insulting me personally. It's fucking pathetic. This is why the country will fall from greatness. Half of its citizens think the principles that we were founded on -the same principles that made us completely unique and brought us to greatness - are now outdated "bullshit" and should be disregarded. Liberals have an issue to be sure with cultural relativism. It speaks to contradictory elements of liberalism, specifically the conflict between tolerance and truth. Add in the underlying while subconscious cynicism of it, the soft bigotry of low expectations, and how it becomes an excuse for inaction, and it is no surprise the weakminded among us might find it appealing. But compared to the fact averse world of right wing America, it is a very small thing. Where are the facts supporting trickle down economics, for example? Yet all GOP candidates support one form or another of it. And all the phony predictions taht turn out not to be true and yet this never causes those who made them to change their analyses. I don't like Maher for his strident atheism, and he can be smug in a way that is offensive. But imo on this issue he is a true liberal, noting that Islamic culture is too often reactionary and intolerant. It is the opposite of liberalism, and why some percentage of liberals don't get that is unfortunate. But don't think right wingers have some great love of the truth.
Trickle down economics hasn't worked not because of the value of the theory but that it is dependent on the actions of people behaving in a certain manner. People is why it fails. But if we want to make this a financial discussion, the " trickle from the middle" economic philosophies of Liberals that have continuously and deliberately trickled money away from and deteriorated services for the middle class to support the lower class certainly doesn't work and actually harms the middle class by the very specifics of the policies rather than failures of people simply not executing the trickle down concept as theorized.
The same thing can be said about Communism. I am not sure what your point is, seeing as how we live in the real world. The point is that right wingers are all following proponents of a general approach to economics that all evidence indicates is ineffective or worse, and people want to criticize liberals for not accepting facts. I am not sure what your second paragraph is even trying to say, so I didn't quote it. Regarding my post from yesterday, I did not mean to say that tolerance and the truth are contradictory as concepts. I meant that certain aspects of Islam, meaning the truth about it and those aspects, make tolerance of it problematic.
