We had more hitting but we had no pitching at all and that's what won those 4 championships in 5 years.
So then he's just stupid when it comes to his career? I doubt you can be smart in one and not the other. Of course it was Boras. Boras has a tough winter ahead of him. Besides Arod, he has Andruw Jones, Villone, Weaver and Gagne to try and peddle, among others.
No question we had better pitching but if we had the dynasty pitching w/ the hitting of the last few years we wouldn't win a Championship. Those dynasty teams always came through in the clutch just like cle's hitters did against us and like Boston's hitters did all postseason long. ARod wants the most money and he's arrogant, he and Boras thought the yanks were bluffing and there's no doubt they have been in contact w/ other eams so they have a sense of the market. It's all about money w/ ARod and he wants more, Boras didn't convince him to opt out. ARod is very smart and knows what's going on.
For once, I actually have to agree with you. While the pitching hasn't been elite the past few years, we lose because we can't hit in October. I don't tend to agree with you that it's a disadvantage to have the monster bats in the lineup as opposed to a bunch of role-players, but it is undeniable that the personnel we've had the past few years, regardless of regular season performance, couldn't hit a basketball with a paddle. With the pitching we're slated to have next year, if we can put together a lineup that can manufacture runs, we can make an honest run in October again, and that's all any of us wants, regardless of who is in the lineup.
The Wilpons must be waking up at night in cold sweats realizing that AROD is falling right into Met laps. Yankees - say they won't negotiate now that AROD has opted out. Angels - Anaheim Arod just does not sound right. Dodgers - no way Frank McCourt pays AROD the money he wants. Giants - AROD would walk 200 times a year with that lineup Phils - do you think Cynthia would rather shop on Fifth Ave. or Market St.? Red Sox - AROD already pissed on them this year.
This is a great article: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...scott_boras_points_ridiculous_finger_at_.html
Of course it only takes one team but the teams that everybody envisioned would be in the Arod hunt are starting to fall out. Detroit and San Francisco are out. The ones that haven't said a word have to keep in mind that the Yankee offer was 225 million for 9 years. Texas was the laughing stock of MLB for the past 7 years. Any team that gives him what he wants now (300+) run the risk of being in that position going forward.
I blame a lot of it on that so-called professional attitude that came from Torre. There was never any sense of urgency in the post-season for years now. They just seemed to go through the motions. Even when they were facing an elimination game there never seemed to be any enthusiasm.
Boras is a total tool. Yeah, it's all Mo's fault. Forget that more than too many times over the past few years the Yankees haven't even had the luxury of allowing Mo to attempt a close. While I'd still like to see ARod return, I wouldn't mind if he got significantly less than his actual worth somewhere else, simply because he allowed Boras to make an ass out of him this month.
The last 2 years there has been plenty of enthusiasm w/ the young guys so that's not an excuse and torre's greatest strength is his calm leadership. It helped us win 4 Championships, he deserves some blame but there's only so much a Mgr can do when his players can't perform.
Boras is no doubt desperate. The more teams that say publicly that they are out of it leaves fewer he can lie about when he tries to pit teams against each other.
Don, Minaya NEVER SAID or implied any such thing. November 1, NEWSDAY: "He is a free agent," Minaya said of Rodriguez. "We're going to evaluate all the free agents that are out there, how they fit into the team, how they fit into us putting together a winning team." Don, why don't you post where your comments come from or just stop bullshitting.
And the link for that article is where exactly? Doesn't it go on to say that they are very happy with Wright at 3rd and Reyes at SS?
Its in today's Newsday.Com. Click on Sports and its the only Wallace Matthews article there today. I am not sure I want AROD on the Mets. Buts is funny how the Mets have not denounced having any interest in AROD. Also, according to various reports (find them yourself - they have been around several news outlets) - David Wright has been asked by the Mets not to comment on any potential position switch. By the way, where did you read on Wednesday that Minaya thinks AROD does not have any place on the Mets?
Haha..where did I say that? I said he indicated they wouldn't make a run for him. I didn't even say he won't make a run at him. I can't find that exact article but here is another one that says pitching is their priority. http://www.nypost.com/seven/10302007/sports/mets/a_rod_on_menu_at_met_meeting.htm Of course they will look at him. Most teams will look at him. The teams that still care about dealing with Boras won't come right out and say they have no interest. You really have to look at this logically. Of course the Mets would like to stick it to the Yankees. Bot teams play that game. The Yankees offer was leaked though and it would have been 225 million for 9 years. Not even what he got from Texas in his last contract. Do you really think Wilpon wants to be the next Tom Hicks and offer 100 million more then the Yankees did who have all the money in the world? Can you even imagine the field day the NY tabloids would have with that?
Where did you read what the Mets would be offerering - for you to say they would be offering 100 million more than the Yankees?
Umm..Boras expects at least 300 million..maybe 400. Even in that link I already posted it says "There are multiple obstacles, however - the Mets would have to be willing to pay Rodriguez an exorbitant contract sum for an exorbitant contract length" There is a reason the Yankees didn't make the extension for 7 years. That would have put the total value of the contract over 250 and the Yankees don't want to be the team that gave the biggest contract in sports history. Do the Mets?
