Making a blanket statement like this is just ridiculous. As a Met fan, I can say that I didn't really have any opinion of him as a man until he let his agent upstage the WS and didn't show up for the Aaron award - until that time, I just thought that he was a great player who was apparently despised by a lot of his fan base, who made some pretty dumb mistakes both on and off the field, and who might not be too good in the postseason, none of which has anything to do with hating him.

And I couldn't care less if you believe it or not. Before you make ridiculous statements like this, why not find some posts that support it? With the exception of a poster or two, you won't find Met fans who bashed ARod on this board in the past. That is simply a fact, whether you like it or not.

I was wrong in making a general statement like that. My opinion refers to what I get from Mets fans when I go to Yanks Mets games every year. I always got the sense of yea we hate Jeter but he's Derek Jeter. A-Rod on the other hand is fraud and a clown who is mr choketober

What exactly did AROD do that was so un-American? Cannot every US citizen take advantage of rules their union bargained for? Or are they supposed to be whip-assed by a company that says, "you worked for us the last three years", FORGET your rights - work for us on our terms.

    Hmm where to start.............

1)Refused to even listen to Yanks offer which would have paid him around 8 years for 230 mil in combined money, knowing full well that the Yanks threatened to end all contract talks if he were to opt out
2)Refused to tell Yanks face to face and had his agent send Brian Cashman a text message stating his intent
3)Has yet to even make a public statement about anything that has gone on
4)Is represented by an agent who threw Mariano Rivera under the bus to rationalize A-Rod's great Octobers
5)Has had a perception as selfish and egotistical person. He has only confirmed those beliefs by his actions

    1. you mean after they threatened him with not negotiating if he opted out?
    2. tell them face to face? is the Yankee front office royalty?
    3. why does he have to make a statement? why would he think anybody cares?
    4. what did his agent say that was not true?
    5. huh? by doing what?

OK if you dont think A-Rod has handled this whole situation very poorly you are kidding yourself. He opted out in the middle of game 4 of the world series really is beyond stupid. Ten days to opt out I guess A-Rod just didnt want to forget so he steals the spotline from Boston. A-Rod now supposedly wants to talk to the Yanks about a contract after nowing his fate after opting out. You had your chance to negotiate you knew what would happen if you opted out. Then I could mention how he has just let his agent make him look like a jackass. Boras pretty much blamed Mariano for blowing the 04 ALCS and stated that A-Rod would be a hero if Mo saves it and they would not might, he says they would have won a world series. Yet he has no explanation for the Angels series, Tigers, and game 1 and 2 of the Tigers season. Take your Met goggles off. Im glad your willing to stick up for A-Rod now that he's not a Yankee

I am sure I would be venting too if Reyes or Wright did the same thing to the Mets. But the guy has every right to gauge his worth as measured by free agency. If not for free agency, he would NEVER have gotten a 250 million dollar contract by Texas. If free agency was not negotiated and won in the courts, he would be a $500,000 a year player. He is standing up for the rights of ALL major league players. He just refused to be sandbagged by the Yankees.

Once again im not referring to what I think about him opting out. Its the way he went about it. He has found a way to opt out the worst way possible and leaving a trail of people who think less of him for acting in such a way. That doesn't even include Yankee fans. I said half way through this year that I do not blame A-Rod if he opts out after all he's been through: fans, media, papers etc... That said theres a right and wrong way to do everything

I agree to a point. But don't you think by Boras announcing to the world that AROD was opting out, DURING THE WORLD SERIES FINAL GAME, he showed baseball how BIG AROD WAS and HOW MUCH HE IS WORTH. It was calculated. All you had to do was look at the newspapers the next morning.

It in my opinion was unclassy and selfish by grabbing the headlines from the Red Sox for personal benefit. The timing was classic A-Rod.

I kind of doubt AROD told Boras to release that statement. And all Boras is doing , is maximizing ARODS bargaining strength.

Dont you find it odd that no matter what A-Rod does he finds a way to do it w/ controversy? The media does play minor issues up but seriously, the slap, HA!, opting out. Now that he is gone, I wonder what Mr. Rodriguez has to say about these easy world series rings that Derek Jeter has which he does not own

I am sure it does not keep him up at night. Be real - the guy is going to retire as the greatest baseball player of all time - and the wealthiest. Aaron Boone, Scott Broscious will end up selling their rings in 25 years because they are broke. AROD did not care about a monument in the new Yankee Stadium, you think he is going to care about a ring? If he did, he could have a gold, diamond plated one that says - GREATEST BASEBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME.

Of course he can, and he did. Now the Yankees are doing the same thing and you seem to have a problem with that, why?

We had baseball's only dynasty over the past 30 years b/c we built from w/in and didn't just go out and overpay for players which is the opposite of what we have done the past 6-7 years. baseball has been lucky we have gone back to our 80s ways to try to build a team but that seeems to be changing, you don't need stars at every position to win. We have had much more offensive talent the p[ast few years than we did in the dynasty years yet w/ all that talent they can't hit when it matters unlike the dynasty years. MLb should be sacred if we continue to build from w./in and sprinkle in FAs and trades rather than build around FAs and trades.

Boras didn't convince ARod of anything, ARod is a really smart guy especially when it comes to his finances.

he wasn't always bashed by met fans b/c they knew he was hurting the Yankees when it counted.
