One thing I like about the move is stability and continuity. We'll see if a little more time with this regime will yield better results.
Yes. Obviously we need a long term answer at the position but let's not pretend that the QB play was bad with McCown. He was above average which is something we haven't seen since Pennigton or half a year with Favre.
Real happy about MM- Others wanting to get our GM fired is ludicrous. You can't just keep hiring a new GM every three years and expect to have a proper rebuild. Not sold on Bowles, he has improved as a HC, but if he still shows the same game/time management skills next year, he has to go.
For one my standards for a HC don’t start or end w the team playing hard..I expect a lot more than just that from an HC. Secondly,The team quit on Bowles just last year!! The media is to blame for selling the roster way short & turning anything beyond 2 wins into an accomplishment..but some fans hold blame too for somehow being content w a losing team that “plays hard”
I just hope the Johnson's don't let Mac spend all are cap space up. I don't want potential free agent Mac mistakes eating the Jets cap space for 3 years when he could be gone in a year. Please do NOT sign Cousins.
Seriously??? I can't wait for another 5 win season myself. I have been a fan for more than 50 years and I can honestly say I had less interest in this regular season than any season ever. I had no interest in watching a rebuilding team play a 38 year old journeyman QB just so our fair to poor HC could get the extension he just received. I can't wait for another season just like this one, only with almost certain regression for McCown. I just hope the Jets draft the right QB or that there are potential franchise QBs in next year's draft, because this team with this HC and these QBs are going nowhere.
Yup. Keep moving forward from 6-10 to 8-8 to 4-12 to 10-6 to 5-11 to 5-11. Looks like great progress to me.
jets have extended the time it will be until they get a coach in here that knows what he is doing and can lead a team to a superbowl. i am not a fan of this move, i do not think the jets are moving forward i think that they have had back to back 5-11 seasons and bowles has not made the playoffs in his 3 years. they got to 10-6 with smoke and mirrors a few years ago and have not really developed even an identity at this point. still need a qb, rb, wr, te, o line, lbs. we have setup 1 position for sustained success, safety. and thats really it. the rest of the entire team needs improvement. i am not getting any younger and the whole give it time is a waste of time in my eyes, usually a guy shows you whether he has it or not in the first 18 months on the job and todd bowles surely has not done that for me. giving him another 2 years and extending our mediocrity further makes no sense to me. 5-11. thats not ok, thats not good and its going to be really hard to sell me on a 5-11 guy getting an extension.
Spot on man..had me raisin my fist in agreement reading this.. One thing though..there’s no way we’re drafting or getting a FQB. Mac keeps overthinking & underplaying that position while Bowles prefers journeymen veterans. They’ll prioritize the pass rush secondary & If we’re lucky an OL or 2. This team doesn’t care about offensive skill just like every other Regime under Woody.
Jets have a crap ton of cap space going into next year and got 5 wins out of a team that was built with all of that space. Next year the Jets spend a ton of money and try to solve the QB issue. This offseason and next season will be when Mac and Bowles will have to earn their jobs.
I like the move. Now go get a real QB. Imagine if Bowels had someone other than Geno, Fitzpatrick or McCown as his QB?
This is a sorta win/win move. "Sorta win", they might be better than mediocre next season and Bowles may actually try to stay awake during the entire game and get a clue as to how the game clock and timeouts work. The other "win"? We might have a legit shot at a Top 3 overall pick after the 2018 season and finally get a hold of our first genuine franchise QB since Namath. . . .
You want to draft the next Sanchez? Or Geno? Or Hack? Or Petty? This franchise will never develop a franchise QB, and all the proof you need is in this team's history. Namath - that's it, and that was a different era. Adding Cousins, with an upgraded Oline, and another solid draft with a playmaker in round 1 would make us a 10 win team right away. And firing Bowles and MM would've been a killer. Who would we hire in their place? Nobody wants to come to this team, in this town, with such a short leash. It's fine to demand more, especially from the CS, but fixing things like penalties and time management should be relatively easy. Identify weaknesses and develop better systems to address those flaws - it's simple management. Motivating players is the hard part IMO, and in spite of his mellow demeanor, Bowles has not lost the players.
