Gentlemen, I really think we finally hired a long term GM that knows what the fuck he's doing. This is EXACTLY what this franchise needed. I really am rooting for Marcus Maye to become a consistently good safety. You ain't gonna win a superbowl because of a pro bowl safety. With Darnolds deal on the horizon, possibly, it would be have been dumb as shit to lock in that much money in a linebacker and a safety. Tremendous value and a cancer cut free.
Well let's just hope Douglas makes at least as good a use of the first rounders as we did with Keyshawn (since one of them became Abraham and then he got traded off for the pick that became Mangold).
A GM who also got rid of cat man williams for a 3rd and a 5th to a team who dont even want to pay him and had to tag him out of embarrassment. You call Joe for a trade, you better bring your wallet. Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
I think this is gonna be a huge message to our locker room and I see much better days in our future. Not sure if I understand this tweet though lol
guys - did we get more than what the Raiders got for Mack? The bears gave up a 2nd and got pretty much what the Jets got for Adams.
I said in the other thread that I would have refused to trade him or give him an extension (and just franchise tagged him over and over) out of spite (and to send a message to everyone else in the locker room). But I will say that if you were going to trade him, it would have been really difficult to get a better deal than this. My guess is he will outplay whomever we wind up selecting with these picks ... but this is really an addition-by-subtraction move.
I'm thrilled to get what the Jets got in return. Adams is a "box safety" and that skill trait is diminishing in value as the league is pass, pass, run. More and more teams now start 2 FS and value the coverage skills. McDougald will mentor A. Davis and S. Carter(practice squad) this season. I expect Davis to be a starter in 2021 and Carter to be a valuable/quality backup for us. Carter was a great UDFA pickup, he's a true coverage safety.
I mean let’s assume the 2 firsts become decent starters and the 3rd rounder is a role player, that’s important for a team lacking talent at multiple positions. To be able to address multiple areas like pass rush, wide receiver, offensive line, and/or cornerback even if they never become Jamal Adams caliber is still a good move anyway. It all depends if Joe Douglas can hit on those picks.
Btw, just to put an exclamation point on how piss poor this team has been with other GMs: Marcus Maye is now the only one left on the roster from Mac's 2017 draft.
He might not outplay McDougald. Adams was a very good player but his hype was overstated, because it originated from him.
People are reading this tweet as Bell calling out Adams. I read it as Bell calling out Adams’ critics. It’s barely fucking English so I dunno.
Adams went out of his way to recruit Bell to come here. It's a straight shot at Adams for his antics of wanting out after recruiting Bell.
That's a helluva haul. So psyched we got that much for him. I hope the door closes on his head on his way out
