The only one of these that really makes sense to me is #2. He isn't going to kill a valuable asset just to intimidate someone who's life is already in his hands. Those others reasons might play into it a little bit, but I have to think the main reason was just to tie up loose ends.
I can't believe what I've been missing out on. Watched the first three episodes yesterday and was hooked after the amazing pilot. About to start the 4th now...hopefully I can catch up soon. Great show.
So you think, if Victor was never seen @ that condo, he would still be alive? There is not a chance in hell he would be alive, not a chance. With everything that went wrong that night Gus's blood was up, somebody had to go....... Jesse? Walt? Mike? Victor maybe a "valuable asset", however is he more valuable than either of those 3? He is the most easily replaceable by an order of magnitude. I also didn't include that is was a total affront to Gus that Victor was trying to cook Meth using Walters almost perfect formula. There were tons of reasons for Victor to buy the farm, # 2 is just one of those. Edit: It is totally within reason for a ruthless Drug Kingpin to send a message. They are known to do that all the time. He had everyone scared out of their minds, even Mike his real "fixer", who even pulled his gun not knowing what to do about that. That scene was almost perfect to me. I think if Gus walked out without saying shit, it would have been even more profound.
Mike the Fixer's wardrobe selection for Jesse and Walt was pretty damn funny. Kenny Rogers t-shirts, white pants, and red Chuck Taylor's.
Re: 1 I don't know about that. Victor couldn't have been expected to watch Gale 24/7. If Gus, through the phone call with Mike, was told exactly how the Gale assassination went down, I can't buy that Gus would have pinned much blame on Victor. Re: 4 They all already knew Gus is in charge. Murdering Victor only made Gus more powerful and scary. I do not believe Gus had to muder Victor to show the others that he is in charge. Re: 5 I can get behind this one and not just because of what Gilligan said. Is it possible that Gus saw Victor trying to cook and maybe that made him think that Walt would want to kill Victor. I got to thinking that maybe Victor was going to look to kill Walt. Perhaps Gus was thinking about that. Look at this. Victor thinks he can cook. Hmm. Might he get an idea to kill Walt?
Ahhh, I completely agree!!! Fantastic scene, but when Gus was walking up the stairwell, I was thinking, "Oh my god, he's not going to say anything!" Victor was killed because he was a) present when Gus needed to send a message to Walt, b) because he was seen at the scene and c) because he had the audacity to waste Gus' raw materials, in that order. Three strikes, you're out, Vic. Bryan Cranston's daughter fainted during the premiere, during this scene. Can't blame her. On another note, I think the writers are aware of my hatred for Skylar, and they're going to fuck with me because of it. Initially, when she moved Walt's car, I hated her. "You fucking 'keeping up appearances' bitch!" But then when she explains her motivations to Walt, I had to concede that it was a shrewd move. I expect that to happen all season.
Gus isn't the kind of guy to kill someone just because his "blood was up". He is a very calculating character, so Victor isn't dead because of emotion. I think the manner in which he killed Victor relates to those other reasons you listed. Victor isn't dead because Gus wanted to send a message, but he wasn't killed behind closed doors by Mike the Fixer because Gus did want to use the opportunity of Victor needing to die to make a point about himself.
How do you know that? We've seen him get angry before during the last few episodes. The "...don't look at him! Look at me." scene with Pinkman and the Combo-killing dealers was really the first and only time we saw Gus lose his cool. Gus ordered his "employees" to kill that kid to get show Jesse he can do whatever the hell he wants. That's not cool-and-calculated, that's almost showy in my opinion. His power may be getting to him. It's may not necessarily what's going to happen, but I feel like Gus will slowly start to make mistakes over the course of the fourth season. Walter will be the one that gets out on top - it'll be amazing to watch.
They've developed Gus as the anti-Tuco. I can't imagine Walt told Gus anything he didn't already know when he was putting on his throat slitting suit. Gus came there knowing exactly what he was going to do because it is what he had to do to protect himself and his business. I didn't sense any emotion in what Gus did, just business.
Cranston was on Conan Monday night. He brought huge bags of the fake meth they use on the show (rock candy), they snacked on it through out the interview.
We agree to disagree............... Lol he was completely pissed beyond belief and someone died. Look at his eyes. So he didn't kick over a table of beakers like Victor. BTW if you didn't sense any emotion in that scene, I strongly suggest that you rewatch, there were tons and tons of emotion conveyed in that scene. That was the entire point of having 5 actors locked in a room with barely a word uttered and still having a scene tense as fuck. It wasn't because they were emotionless. If it was so clear and calculated, please explain why Mike's gun was out and he was surprised as fuck about that killing too..........If Victor was so cold and calculating at that point Mike would have seen that coming a mile away. Man this is almost as ridiculous as arguing if Walt is evil or not............
Really good first ep of the season. Mrs. DBJ is trying to hop on the show at the start of this season and is pretty lost (it will take a year to catch her up.....she is slow on watching TV). I expect it will settle into a rhythm in a couple of episodes. The problem with coming in mid-stream is that so much has happened to change the characters that the view you have of them now is completely different from when the show started.
...couldn't have said it better. Just look at The Chicken Man's eyes while he's holding Victor as he's bleeding out - the dude is incredibly angry.
a bit off topic: Is this thread spoiler free or it's common practice to talk about what's gonna happen in the next episodes? cheers
Yeah, I didn't watch the episode until last night and _____'s death was spoiled for me when I opened this thread. Didn't really ruin it for me though.
