Every episode cannot be, from front-to-back, loaded with action or, for lack of a better term, drama. I understand what you mean completely, though. But try thinking of it this way, you may find extra enjoyment in your shows: There are two types of episodes with relation to a television drama. The first of which is the Expository episode, an episode that "exposes" information. Typically these episodes answer questions, set up future obstacles, solve obstacles, create plot twists, etc. These episodes are the ones you consider "taking the week off" because they are low in action but high in information. But these episodes are essentially the "grout" holding the "tiles" together. Like I was discussing with E. in The Walking Dead thread, the first season was excellent for action, however, it neglected to answer any questions it created. When a television show does that it completely rejects its design, which is for the characters to Arch. The biproduct of the Arch is Drama and like I said in the same thread, I give the director the benefit of the doubt because of his prior credentials, but they (the crew) need to get stronger with story. The second type of episode is the Enactment. The is the episode which sees through plans, discussions, obstacles, etc. referenced in the expository episode. Enacting episodes are usually loaded with action and drama. Sons of Anarchy is an excellent example of what I am trying to convey. One week there's a lot of action, the next it's all discussion.
A lot people hated the season three episode with the fly in the lab. In my opinion, that was one of the strongest episodes of the show - there was so much tension between Walt and Pinkman. Cranston and Paul definitely deserved their Emmy's this year. This show has the best acting on TV.
The Fly episode was incredible, brilliantly shot and was the most meaningful episode in which somebody didn't blow up/get shot.
I also enjoyed the fly episode. It was a microcosm of what makes that show so good. Walt and Jesse and their interactions are what makes this show so awesome.
An FYE store by me was liquidating, I scooped up Season 1 and 2. Watched season 3 online. Watched 2 episodes a night during the week. Short seasons...hopefully 4 will be longer.
You guys weren't kidding. The show is excellent. I still don't quite understand why Walt became a teacher. They explain how he got "bought out". In the one flash back he was in a relationship with the dark haired woman with the Bentley (now married to his former-partner) obviously there's some animosity there, but Walt is brilliant, he should have figured something else out. I guess he poured everything he had into the joint venture and when he got cut out he became complacent and just settled on teacher because it was "easy". Cancer was the catalyst to re-ignite his drive. Jesse is pretty annoying..I'm pretty intrigued by Hank, I think the guy who play's him does a great job.
I'm about 3 episodes away from finishing season 3. I think Jesses awesome, he's really trying to come into his own in season 3. Walts the fucking boss though. Just finished season 3. Fuck this show is awesome
SPOILERS BELOW I think we're supposed to believe that Gretchen and her husband betrayed Walt at some point. In my opinion, Walt gave up his dreams because of his controlling bitch of a wife and Walter Jr, so hopefully we'll see some flashbacks in Season 4. I think that's almost exactly what happened. I think he settled for the life he was living before the cancer. Jesse Pinkman is my favorite main character now. I thought he was incredibly annoying in the first season and during most of the second season. Aaron Paul did a hell of a job in season three. He had a few very powerful scenes: the wooden box story and the "that's what happens next" tirade were awesome. Buying the house back from his parents was also great. Mike the Fixer is fucking awesome. "...no more Half Measures, Walter."
Mike the Fixer Michael Clayton The Wolfman from Pulp Fiction If so many characters like that exist, they must exist in real life, I would guess. Pretty insane. Another thing I like is that the writers did their homeowork, seems like they spent a lot of time in meth labs (similar to how the writers of The Wire approached the show). I thought nothing about El Paso until I read the story about Notre Dame and Miami not allowing their players to go into Mexico while they were in Texas for the bowl game. In the story they discussed how bad Juarez, Mexico was with drug war. Over 3,500 murders this year and 80% go uninvestigated. *Spoil* So Hank goes to El Paso and his whole squad gets blown up on the first recon mission. No wonder Hank doesn't want to be in the big leagues. I agree with you E, Walt's wife is a dumb trick, bitch. I hate her quarter moon-shaped head.
Saw the whole series so far and I have to say its the best drama on TV right now...The writing is fantastic and I hope it stays strong for a couple more season. The season finale was awesome
A while ago, Vince Gilligan said it will only last five seasons. I've honestly enjoyed every single episode of this show - it's genius. The episode before the season three finale is probably my favorite episode of the series. "No more half measure, Walter."
It was called "Half Measures", the finale was "Full Measure"...nice build-up by the writers. That was an amazing ending to an episode. I'm interested to see how Hank's story pans out over the next season or so. It kinda sucks that he's not involved in law enforcement anymore - I thought he'd be always be right behind Walt.
I'm guessing Walt-Hank could be the ending to the show...Can you see Hank a proud man take down Walt?
I just caught up on this show finally. It is definitely fucking badass. SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN"T WATCHED SEASON 3 So I just watched "Full measures" and I thought it was pretty clear that Jessie shot the Gale. My friend was under the impression that Jessie turned his gun and possibly shot someone else or purposely missed. I still think it was pretty clear cut, but I'm wondering what you all think.
SPOILER ALERT Pinkman shot him in the face. BOOM! headshot. Vince Gilligan confirmed that Gale is dead.
