Well then, I think it is entirely possible. I think the most likely scenario with Braylon is that he and Sanchez get on the same page and put up some excellent numbers over a 2-3 season span - Pro Bowl numbers.

Edwards had a lot of distraction and instability during his time in Cleveland, and that could possibly explain the drop off in concentration and production from his Pro Bowl season. Rex appears to be the kind of guy that is able to focus his players well, even while turning them into frothing animals on the field. This could be the perfect scenario, if Sanchez is the real deal. Cotch and Braylon are the perfect compliment to each other, as far as skillsets go.

This is probably the best case scenario, in my mind. The worst case is that the Jets struggle in 2010 and Braylon starts calling his agent for modeling gigs after practice on Thursdays.

im with you on a bigger season, not sold on the numbers tho

one reason is that he has one of the best #2 wrs in the league on his team. another is that we wont pass enough. i know rex said we will be more balanced, i.e. going from 65% run to 60% run is more balanced, but relative to the rest of the league we wont look very balanced

    Good thread Dware...

I like Edwards in 2010, as he clearly is going to be the homerun hitter for the Jets in the vertical game. However, I love how he bought into the team first concept and proved his value in the running game last season. His blocking was top notch for a WR and he clearly helped TJ and Shonn in the run game by keep CB's from collapsing the 2nd and 3rd levels. He's also money on those outside counters and pitches.

As for the passing game, I think Cotch will turn into a great possession receiver, and with Keller and a 3rd WR (draft) this offense can really open up for Sanchez. We saw the maturation in the playoffs, so if he can carry that over and have a solid TC with his WR's and develop more chemistry with Braylon, I think we could see more of the 07 version of him. I'd say 1,200 yards and 8 TD's sounds very realistic.

The bomb to Braylon for the wide open TD was shades of Brady to Moss in their 18-Doh! season. He gets great seperation. He didn't have THAT many drops, they were just amplified by the low volume of passes going his or any of our receivers) way. Sure, you could argue that more passes will lead to even more drops, but that remains to be seen.

We need the Clown to get his act together, or to find a physical clone of him in rounds 2-4 to replace him. We need a 6 foot guy with good hands that can just burn down the field. I don't want a Welker type. We're ALWAYS late to that party when we try to copy popular trends. *cough*cover2*cough* As a team that wants to dominate running the football, bubble screens just do not make sense for us. We want their defensive backs and linebackers 10-15 yards downfield, and we need fast receivers to keep them honest.

I've supported Edwards all season, even after his drops. He did so much more to this team then what stats show, and I expect him to actually get stats and contribute even more next season.

    I still love the trade.

I have to agree with this post .... Edwards was a top 10 wr 2 years ago possibly a top 5 wr and what has changed???... nothing ... he is in the prime of his career age wise and we all saw what he could do in Cleveland ... did he drop some balls?? yes he did .. but I think with a full year to work with Sanchez I think his confidence and production will improve.

He caught 16 TDs in 2007, in 2008 he was on an awful team and had like 4-5 QBs play throughout the season, so what do people expect from him?

And then a rookie QB on a running team where he got traded midseason.

This guy is an elite talent, he's had some unfortunate situations for him stat-wise, but he has top 5 WR talent.

Anyone who is gonna complain about Braylons drop off in talent should just look at Moss's production when he was with Oakland or TO's production with Buffalo.

Even elite wrs production drops off massively when theyre playing with garbage qbs in garbage systems.

And Sanchez is still learning, plus all the focus in the jets passing game is on Edwards.

I wouldnt be surprised at all if Edwards becomes a top 5 wr or better in the next 5 years assuming Sanchez blossoms into at least a top 15 QB.

Maybe the Jets can find another WR to compliment Cotchery and Edwards. They can move Cotchery (he would be sick there) to the slot and also have Keller....... The Jets would have a sick offense, provided of course Sanchez continues on his maturation process.

    and he drops the baby..................

I agree. I see 1100 yards and 8 TD's for us. Mark will hit him on at least 4 deep balls next year.

Keller is gonna have his breakout next year. Franchez will be more comfortable throwing to him and he'll have a Vernon Davis type breakout. A lot of TDs.

    +1

All this talk of our lack of weapons, but we're loaded with skill position starting talent heading into their prime years.

Keller will be in his 3rd year, and could put up huge numbers. Cotchery should be Cotchery...Edwards could possibly dominate...he'll dictate how many balls he gets, not Cotchery IMO....When he's on he's pretty fuckin on...and even if you ignore the stats and stuff and just watch his tape the guy consistently beats his man when he's singled...

I agree with this post. He opens up the opposing D, in addition to his catches.
