He pled guilty in a different jurisdiction. He may not have a deal lined up in Cleveland yet, and just be hoping for leniency. I'm actually not even sure you can reach a pre-hearing deal about a probation violation, since you're not making the deal with the prosecutor, but rather with the court.
The timing of Braylon's guilty plea is pretty interesting. I wonder if there was something in the new CBA that stated "no more suspensions for first time DWI's." If that was the case, that might have informed his decision to cop a deal as opposed to fighting the charge.
TheJetsStream Manish Mehta According to Cleveland court spokesperson, Braylon Edwards received 1 yr probation + 100 hrs community service after hearing today. #nyj
No jail time still keeps Braylon in play. He's gotta be in "dont fuck this up mode." I can't see him getting any more than a 3 year contract at this time, with clauses to recoup money if he gets in trouble.
Indeed. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/27/braylon-edwards-avoids-jail-time-but-not-please-with-court-decision/ Braylon Edwards avoids jail time, but not please with court decision Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 27, 2011, 4:27 PM EDT Free agent wide receiver Braylon Edwards hasn’t had a great Wednesday. He found out Santonio Holmes got the big bucks in New York, and had a court date in Cleveland. Edwards was sentenced to a year of active probation and 100 hours of community service. That would seem to be a good result considering he could have gone to jail for violating probation, but apparently Edwards wasn’t pleased with the development. “They’re not too happy about it,” a Cleveland municipal court spokesman said. “I think they wanted him to walk.” Edwards can serve his punishment remotely, although he has to check in with a parole office once a month.

Braylon Edwards @OfficialBraylon Braylon Edwards I would love to be a Jet but the feeling doesn't seem to be mutual with the management.
I feel kind of bad for Braylon. On the field he did everything right for this team, there just isn't space for him any more. Hopefully he finds big bucks and a good situation somewhere out in the NFC, where we don't have to see him too often.
OfficialBraylon Braylon Edwards On another note whatever team wants B easy step to the fore front so we can get this thing moving forward. "will work for touchdowns" lol Braylon Edwards OfficialBraylon Braylon Edwards Will always love jets nation no matter what happens
Damn. Wanted him here before, but now more than ever. Sucks to see a talented guy that clearly wants to be here have to go elsewhere. That being said, if we can build a championship team at the expense of losing him, I'll get over it. Still a bummer though.
Santonio is on his last strike as well. He got 5 years. As far as character issue goes, Braylon would be the obvious choice.
I still have hope. We all know from Hard Knocks, pretty much every time a player talks to Tanny they are shocked by what goes down. Rember the KC meeting? Kellen was pretty much shocked the whole time.
