James Bryant was the one that scored. Earlier on the drive Bryant was late hit out of bounds and an FIU play tore his helmet off. After that play words were exchanged (he was on FIU's sideline). Also, in an interview with Jon Beason (of all people, he stayed on the sidelines), he said that a player on FIU (Chandler Williams) had been punching UM defenders after the play all game, notice he was one of the people kicked out. heres the video by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JWeE9KqZjQ
He took a bow to the crowd, he in no way taunt the bench, watch the replay his arm swings out, not pointing and bows to the Crowd, not the fiu bench. Another thing, i gurantee that any college team sees their player get slammed on the ground and beaten on, you dont see anyone sit there and let them get beaten up. No way. another thing, you see Miami players trying to break it up and get punched. If anyone does this they get away, if Miami does it oh man lets get all on them. ANd sadly Coker takes the goood guy way and suspends them indefinately. BRYant i dont agree with it. Reddick i do along with Bradon M, but seriously everyone who was there like i know, knows miami was not the cause, but they did end it.
Yes, James Bryant, indeed. I stand corrected. I combined the receiver's name with the QB's name. Also, I didn't see the TD and the unsportsmanlike conduct by Bryant. I only posted what I read from a game recap.
What you don't see in that pic of Meriweather stomping that guy, is that the FIU player had just taken down Kenny Phillips. #53 or whatever had started pummeling Kenny, which was why BM had attacked him. Not defending what he did, just saying that it wasn't unprovoked.
I've got to think, though, that UM was trying to devise ways to fire a head coach that had a strong record of success. This event provided a real tidy way for the Trustees to box-up Uncle Larry and send him out of town. Larry Coker is fired before 3:00 this afternoon, or my name is Kaysar.
im not defending Miami at all or Merriweather stomping on somebody. but that incident your talking about, Merriweather saw people circling his house and heard someone outside, shots were fired. So he then, pulled out his completely LICENSED weapon and returned fire. Miami obviously has character issues. but that is an off the field incident and a pretty understandable one.
im an FSU fan so I hope he stays.............hahahaha THE CANES SHOULD REALLY CONSIDER BRINGING BUTCH BACK! COKER CAME IN AND WON WITH BUTCH'S BOYS. oh well theyll find someone
Why were shots fired, and why does he have a gun? Im in college and unless Im causing trouble or anyone else, no one needs a gun.
well, it was licensed. so he legally had it. its moreso your view on gun control i guess. people dont have to cause trouble to warrant having a firearm. we could debate various things forever. but its also highly possible he had bad people in his past and once he becomes a UM star people are looking to take what they can from him. literally. maybe there is more behind it too. but regardless nothing has been proven, and he's registered to carry it, 2nd amendment rights, yada yada. all I'm saying is, people will make excuses (maybe as you see me doing) and people will envision that merriweather re-enacted the last scene of scarface and brought it upon himself. theres extremes on every spectrum, I just think its easier to believe the worst since its UM and the whole "thug" moniker theyre labeled with. the fight was classless for both teams but its also easier to point fingers since its a powerhouse vs a new school. and no, actually im an FSU fan i just defended merriweather because nothing is really known about the case and he has every right to defend himself. now i'm not taking a stance on gun control or trying to debate it either, because I guess thats what it comes down to. either way I think we can both agree in that this hurts his draft stock.
Here ya go....................Kaysar  Miami trustees discuss brawl; Coker safe for now By Joe Schad Special to ESPN.com CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- About two dozen members of the University of Miami board of trustees met for two hours on Monday morning, spending the last 30 minutes discussing Saturday's ugly brawl with Florida International and the future of Hurricanes coach Larry Coker. According to the trustee who attended the meeting, President Donna Shalala said: "Nobody's job is in jeopardy now." Shalala, the trustee said, is standing by her committment to Coker, at least through this season, adding that the fight was "embarrassing" but "not cause for dismissal." "Saturday's on-field melee has no place at the University of Miami," Shalala said in a prepared statement issued during the meeting. "Regardless of who started it, this was an embarrassing display of unsportsmanlike behavior." "FIU President Mitch Maidique and I talked by phone shortly after the incident on Saturday night. We both expressed deep disappointment and apologized to each other on behalf of our institutions," Shalala said in the statement. "The ACC maintains rigorous behavioral and academic standards for student-athletes. We are satisfied with their decision." Miami has suspended 13 players for at least one game and it is likely some will be suspended for multiple games. FIU coach Don Strock said Monday that some of his 18 suspended players will miss multiple games. Miami plans to have some of its suspended players participate in community service projects, the trustee said. The mayhem began shortly after halftime, when Miami's James Bryant pointed at the FIU bench and bowed to the crowd after catching a touchdown pass. Moments later, on the point-after attempt, FIU's Chris Smith wrestled Miami holder Matt Perrelli to the ground and punched him. The benches cleared and the two teams skirmished for five minutes, as several players from both sides were seen throwing punches. Miami's Brandon Meriweather was seen attempting to stomp on FIU players, while an injured Golden Panther swung a crutch menacingly at several Miami players. Miami's Anthony Reddick charged across the field, helmet raised over his head, and slammed it into FIU's Robert Mitchell. The fight marred what was supposed to be the beginning of a rivalry between two schools with players who grew up playing each other on high school fields in South Florida.
I think it was #26 using his lid as a weapon. Rule #1 If you get in a fight on the field NEVER take your lid off ,
BAH! I get it. The U is still looking for that coveted MPC Bowl income. The right thing for both the institution and the football program was to tell Larry, "Good day, sir." Frankly, I think they should also revisit Donna Shalalalala's status, but that won't happen.
You know what quit hating, im tired of the UM bashing, im glad they beat up FIU for attacking their guys. Hell FIU should be honored to be let in the OB and compete on the same field, but they came in there as thugs but no miami gets the wrap for it. everyone forgets they started it and everyone acts like Miami just ran across the field and started a fight. To hell with them. You people who make fun of miami are just haters, because you are too ignorant to know that they were defending their teammates. ANy college football team would go and do the same, but of course no Miami is at fault. I love how you enjoy when Miami is down, yet when they were dominating football you all shut up and were like no fair. Call them thugs because thats all you can do, make fun of them because thats all you can do. But you can't deny they are one of the best teams in college football history. Lets not even talk about Thug U, because once again. Florida lets a player who failed his drug test this year play the season. and Bowden doesnt even punish his players for anything they do. But Miami cleans up their image and they still have everyone ready to pounce on the first mistake they make. So keep hating the U
You are absolutely correct - FIU started it, and Miami unfairly gets most of the blame. FIU should get more blame than they have, but they just don't have the high profile of The U. The rest of everything you wrote just makes me giggle.
Hey it's true, im not saying i like the swinging the helmet or stomping on guys heads, but hey FIU started it attacking a holder and kicking him on the head while he was already down and getting beaten up. And everyone who is saying typical miami has no right to because they were standing up for their team. NO COACH and i mean no coach in any league be it NFL or NCAA could have prevented that from happening. You mean to tell me if this happens to USC or Ohio State they wouldnt rush to their teammates aid?
