Sometimes Keith says the most ridiculous things. The home plate umpire has been horrible this game, calling outside pitches strikes all game, and Keith says he's calling a good game because he's been the same for both sides. No, Keith, a good game is one where the umpire actually gets the calls right.
im watching TBS, and the guys since the beginning of the game have said how good of a Ball/strike ump this guy is.
Well, that's just ridiculous, but that wasn't even Keith's point - he specifically said that a guy who has been consistently bad in calling balls and strikes is doing a good job.
Boy do I hate the Braves.... No matter how good we are, we're going to have to start beating them if we want to take the East
I think it depends. Most hitters would prefer a guy that has a consistent strikezone, even if by the book it's not technically correct. This guy today seemed to be the other breed though, inconsistent with his calls and technically incorrect, which is of course as bad as it gets.
I don't know. The Mets did go 8-10 against Philadelphia in 1986, but finished 21.5 games better than them. I still think the Mets will finish at least 5 games better than the Braves.
Of course players prefer someone who is consistent to someone who isn't, but IMO anyone who is consistently wrong cannot be said to be calling a good game. The goal for officials should always be to get it right, period.
I'm with statjeff. The hitters have been training their entire life to know the strikezone perfectly. It's not right for an umpire to, for one game, to change the strikezone on them to fit his own style.
