Marshall has never been on a team that went to the playoffs and he has been in the league for over 10 years....It isn't a coincidence.
He was lobbying so hard to bring Fitz back in 2016. So he totally helped with the joke atmosphere. Fuck it. It's time to star fresh. It will take a while but it's about time. No more quick fixes.
He does not care about the money. It is about being competitive and being able to film his Showtime broadcast.

The Jets simply must pick up a veteran stop gap qb. Mac-N-Bowles cannot pin all thier hopes for the 2017 season on Petty and/or Hackenburg. Kind of hard to grow as a team when you continue to get suckhole play out of the quarterback position.
Out of curiosity, what hopes are there exactly for 2017? The only plan that makes sense is to develop our young players and be in position for a FQB in the 2018 draft. Nothing else makes sense taking the long view. A veteran stop-gap Qb only pushes Petty/Hack's development back another season. Why bother with a FA JAG QB except for the illusion of being "competitive" aka: selling hope where there is none. . Better plan is to let Hack/Petty compete for the starting job. Gives both our young Qb's incentive to excel. Signing a FA Qb means both our young guys have no shot at starting. We don't need another Mentor either. Petty and Hack have probably learned all they can by absorbing info and watching. Now its time for them to play and show what they can or can't do in 2017. Once we know that, we'll be able to plan for 2018 more effectively.
It seems as if you're not averse to tanking. So your essentially suggesting we roll the dice with Petty, Hackenberg and someone who won't be a threat to steal any snaps from either of the young qbs...heck may as well just carry Petty and Hack with Bilal Powell as our emergency quarterback. Either Petty or Hackenberg turn into at the very least a serviceable NFL QB, or we suck our way to the first pick in next years draft. Suck, clear cap space, stockpile picks, repeat. I know we need to continue the youth movement, but I've got no problem with bringing in some veterans who can help our young team gain confidence by having success doing their jobs together as a unit, be it offense, defense, or special teams.
I am having trouble understanding this logic about Marshall and the Patriots that seems to be common on this forum. If you believe the Jets were smart to release him, why worry about the Pats signing him? If you truly believe the Marshall wasn't good for the Jets why would he be good for say the Pats? It is my understanding that the Giants signed him for 2 years at 11 million, obvious less than what the Jets were paying him. This is almost the same money as Julian Edelman. I would take Edelman any day over Marshall. Marshall is more talented then Julian Edelman. But Edelman beats him out for work ethic, more of team player, heart, hands, and more clutch. It is a pity that Marshall's talent was never realized, but he has no one to blame but Marshall himself.
The "when motivated" is the catch phrase for sure. Isn't that the problem with Marshall? The Patriots offense does allow receivers to modify routes based on the defense. However, these adjustments are not ad lib or as they say in music improvisation. These adjustments in routes need to be done in concert with Brady and the coaching staff's interpretation of the defense. If a receiver makes an adjustment that Brady doesn't agree with, that receiver will find himself not getting the ball from now on. The Patriots offense is very complex and some people have argued over the years it may be to complex for its own good. Brady having been in that system for so many years is probably right 95% of the time when a receiver runs a route he didn't expect. In a previous post I argued that the Giants and the Ravens were the best fit for Marshall. This is mostly due to their offensive schemes they run. The more I think of it, Marshall would have a difficult time learning the Patriots offense.
