But Branch is not a sure thing. He hasn't shown to be above and beyond any of our current receivers. I am not against the trade per se. But think a 2nd is too high.
This thread isn't about Pennington...who gives a crap about arm strength, he's starting, you're not the coach...you can't do anything about it.
He's shown to be above and beyong mccareins and dwight. Which isn't hard, but more reason for us to make this trade.
Whoa, easy. His arm does make a difference in this conversation if we're talking about getting a receiver.
I don't think Branch is a sure thing. Again, he's an undersized burner who can take advantage of a guy who can deliver the ball with zip. Pennington needs big targets who can go up and grab the ball. Branch seems like a system player who has arguably the best NFL Qb in the last 10 years throwing to him. And even then, he's been in and out of the lineup and has failed to break 1000 yards receiveing. Last year, his best year, he had 998 yards and 5 tds. Can you name any other "sure thing" WRs we have gotten for a 2nd round pick that was supposed to have his first 1000 yard season with us? And yes, I've seen Brunell play plenty of times, as I went to school near DC. Although he's no Manning, his arm is objectivly stronger than Chads.
Branch is still a good Wr. He may not be as good as he thinks he is but he could definitley help us at Wr. If the Pats drop their asking price then i would do it.
Did anybody even consider that maybe we are going to ship LC up northwards in trade CB cause of all the mouthing off LC has done about TC?
I keep reading things like this, but does anyone on this entire board think that the Patriots are interested in accepting a 3rd or 4th round pick for their number one receiver? I don't think they're looking to unload the guy.
I agree that we shouldn't play for draft status prior to the season. But Branch will have to be pretty spectacular for me (personally) to feel comfortable with giving up a 2nd rounder. Particuarly since a 2nd rounder comes in 6 or so years younger with, most likely, more upside.
I think it's been mentioned already in this or the other Branch thread, so yes, someone considered it.
I completely disagree that our WR corps is awful. Cotchery, and particularly Coles and Dwight can start on any team (and have). And Brad Smith is going to prove himself in this league or I'll eat all four of my plastic seats in Row 5. As far as addressing positions, that's what we're doing here, no? Next year, when Clemens is the starter, here's his receiving corps: 1) Coles 2) Branch 3) Cotchery 4) Dwight 5) Smith Clemens' crisp delivery to any one of these guys can burn you.
champ can you do me a favor CP the last lf can always beTR if not PO so what im saying is, TH off of DE because of the obvious WA....you know?
Don't forget about the WR who may potentially be the best of them all, Brad Smith, who is getting better everyday under his new role.
