Guys, it's very possible the Jets worked something out with Branch to drive the price up NE has to pay to keep him. Not saying it's true, but it's possible.

I disagree that we're completely awful at receiver. I think Coles, Cotch, and Dwight make a decent receiving corps. That's not an oustanding group of receivers, but IMO it's not nearly as bad as you seem to think it is.

I agree it would be an upgrade, but at what cost?

Did Mangini not just praise Coles? I cannot see us dishing Coles... No way. If they do, I'll eat my scissors.

Boston Globe reports that The Seahawks are the NFC team mentioned, and Branch has agreed on a contract with them as well

Why don't we need a receiver?

Brady makes Branch a better receiver then he will be with this team. I do not want this deal to go through. He will not do for this team what he does for the Pats.

I guess it would matter what your opinion of branch is. He's made big plays in big situations and i think thats what we need more than anything.

He's also gonna want to stick it to the pats after all of this. Would i would love to see, if our qb can get him the ball.

I would say that a deal with the Patriots that satisfies both teams is slim at best. They will want to much, we won't offer enough & in the end Branch willend up a Patriot.I am a big fan of Branch but I would not give up to much, not at this stage of the rebuilding process.

Chad's arm is as strong as Brunell's? Are you KIDDING ME? And I'm not advocating the jets play for a low draft pick. But the truth is, with the glaring holes we have, it is more likely than not that we will end up with a high pick. Why trade away a 2nd round pick, when more likely than not, it will be a HIGH 2nd round pick, for a guy who probably doesn't deserve that high of a selection.

I don't understand why if the Branch moves does happen it has to be a Branch has to produce RIGHT NOW. He's in his mid-20's, like Coles...It wouldn't be just a produce now or that's it...

With the potential of Clemens starting in 07', he could be the QB who gets them the ball, not necessarily Chad.

Brunell has had one of the worst arms his entire career...It's not a stretch to say that chad's is as strong.

you can never be deep enough at WR, I like this move if it goes down, Pats probably want at least a 2nd rounder

I'm not a Chad hater first of all. It's amazing how you fail to differentiate between me getting an uncalled dig in on Chad and me pointing out weaknesses with Chad. Chad's strength is NOT his arm. Did I say he's a crappy QB? No. He's got good intangibles, a tremendous heart, good accuracy, and good decision making skills. But for a guy like Branch who is small, quick, and fast, Pennington's floater balls won't do much good for Branch.

Bricket-head - I hope we keep him I like coles in green and white and i don't want you to have to keep your word - But

Mangini is so specific on what he says to the press I always wonder if he has a hidden agenda. There could be several reasons to "Praise him in the press"

    1) build up his value for a trade
    2) pat him on the back so he stops whining
    3) appease his ego so he does not become a virus in the clubhouse

Have you ever seen Brunell play? Chad has a weak arm, but it's gotten blown completely out of proportion just how weak it is.

Because Branch is a sure thing. If our 2nd round pick turns out to be as good as Deion Branch, we made a very good pick.

Why the hell do the Seahawks want Branch... They have Burleson and Jackson. Wow. I have Burleson on my fantasy team, so there's another reason why I want him to go to the Jets.

It is if you've ever watched Pennington and Brunell throw. I'm not about to suggest Brunell is a better QB, but Chad has to be in the bottom 5% of arm strength for NFL QBs. If you think Pennington has as much arm strength as Brunell, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Keep in mind, with the noise Coles has been making lately about being worked so hard in camp, I can't imagine that sits very well with Tangini. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jet's are considering Coles only a one or at most two year option, with Branch, Cotch, Smith and future picks being the long term plan..
