If he sits out I don't thinks its because of the Jets but the Jets and Seattle did show Branch that he's worth more than what NE was offering...He has been threatening it the whole time but if he needed a little push (to do it) then he was just given a shove!

It's not a proper matter for grievance, so I'm guessing this is Jason Chayut's way of trying to get the League office, and a brand spankin' new commissioner in Roger Goodell, involved in the dispute. Goodell isn't going to be all that keen on discord amongst the ranks in his first week on the job. Chayut is likely counting on that, and trying to trigger someone - anyone - to step in and fix this for him and his client.

If it gets before a special master and goes to a hearing, he loses every day of the week. He may as well grieve with the DMV, because the DMV has no more jurisdiction than the special master. Clearly, he's hoping for a "courthouse steps" settlement.

I totally agree with you but I'm just happy that he's sticking to his guns and not given in to the Pats!!! If we did sign him I think he would be a good fit but since we didn't I don't think its that big of a loss.

Are they crazy? Were not giving up a 1st rounder and a middle pick. Branch doesnt have that much value.

ESPN: Jets tried to trade for Branch. Patrirats said no.

Jets tried to trade for Branch. Patrirats said no.
NFLPA has filed a grievance against the patrirats when they refuse the Jets proposal.
    Just saw it on ESPN.
Anyone else heard and has more unfo?
    Thoughts.

We offered a second rounder and they rejected it. The Patriots refused both the Seahawks and Jets offer too.

Yahoo compares the situation with Culpepper getting a second round pick..

I really think BB made a huge mistake by allowing Branch to seek a trade...Draft Picks (besides the Jets escapades in recent past) are valued by many teams, then they were in the past (unless your the Redskins)...BB thinking he could get a 2 1st round picks is absolutely fing ridiculous and if that is the case him offering Branch a chance to seek a trade was total BS and had absolutely no contention of trading him...

I say good on Tannenbaum by tossing in my opinion an overinflated contract agreement and causing Branch's value to skyrocket and BB to regret his decision.I hope he sits out till week 10...

He said the New York Jets offered a second-round draft pick for Branch, which Berthelsen said was of commensurate value.

He noted that Branch was the 65th player drafted in 2002, one of the last in the second round, and that Miami sent a second-round pick to Minnesota before this season for quarterback Daunte Culpepper.

"We filed a grievance today and we're expediting the case," meaning it must be heard within seven days, Berthelsen said.

One thing I don't remember seeing in this thread - what kind physical condition is Branch going to be in after holding out of camp? Add to that the fact that Branch would have to learn a new offense and the result is that he probably wouldn't be able to contribute much early in the season. Not that I wouldn't still make a trade, but this should be considered when making an offer this close to regular season. At the very least it can soften the disappointment of not getting him (now).
