And I repeat, Branch is 10x better than McCareins. He's probably better than Coles too, but that is at least up for debate.
Which is the job of a GM. If you judge on past performance alone, you end up getting overpriced, underperforming guys like the Yankees seem to be getting lately. The job of a GM is to speculate how someone would perform in their system.
In 04 he wasn't in the top 30 in receptions, yards or recieving TD's. He was a complete bust for half the 04 season. He showed up down the stretch and made some nice possession catches.
i still say Branch being successful in our dink and dunk offense is questionable, therefore giving up high draft picks just seems foolish
enough with this argument.. I'm out of here. It's not worth it. Just think about it one day. If McCariens was with NE, and Branch for NYJ for the past 2 yrs.... would the opinion of both players be slightly different? I think so. That doesn't discredit Branch or hype up McCareins.
i agree Jmac has done shit his career, let alone the jets. Sorry to say the last time the jets had a big impact WR besides coles was keyshawn.
Just because we do not hear about it at 4PM? Who knows what is going on. If something went down, the public may not know until tonite, tommorow.....
Bottom line is the asking price is rediculous. 2 first round picks should land you THE BEST player at their position easily. 2 first round picks should get you someone like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson ... Regardless of how Branch compares to McCariens, he obviously is not in the same company as the list above.
I am so glad I swapped my Mccareins authentic jets jersey with Dinobot for his authentic namath last year. thanks again dino
McCareins was a #3 WR when the former FO paid him like a #1 WR. Other than a couple nice grabs in 2004, he has done NOTHING, and is being so outperformed in camp he may drop to the #5 WR spot. Branch is a former NFL Superbowl MVP in his mid 20's and is without a doubt the #1 WR on the Patriots.
Mangini and Tannenbaum just did this so they could take away one of the Patriots' weapons. Branch will be a Seahawk and Mangini won't have to gameplan against Branch.
Troy Brown would still be starting in NE and McCareins would be making the league minimum or have been cut.
There is no sense arguing with you if you think McCareins is going to be #5. #3 possibly, but not #5. I'm not even a huge fan of McCareins. I just ask you. IF MCCAREINS WAS WITH NE AND BRANCH WITH NYJ THE PAST 2 YRS, WOULD WE BE OFFERING HIM 6 FOR 36 TO STAY AROUND? Answer that question. It's speculative, I know, but that's what being a GM is all about.
That's one opinion. My opinion is McCareins wouldn't be seen as bad as we see him now, and Branch would not be seen as good as we see him now. Their skill "scores" would merge closer together. Branch still higher, but not by the margain people see it now.
Let me throw this back to you since I don't recall what we gave him but last year I would certainly have paid Branch the same amount we paid Coles with the toe issue he had.
