Well if that's all he's calling, then more than likely, the WR's running those routes are covered. It's easy to blame the QB and WR's but defensive coordinators get paid to study offenses. You make it pretty easy when every game you try to "ground and pound" or dink and dunk. When you dont throw downfield,it becomes pretty damn easy to check receivers and the BS playaction we try to run is pointless.
Not true at all. The wide receivers are getting open. Sometimes they even get wide open. I'd say they get the same separation as do the receiving corps of many other teams. You don't have to be wide open to be open. As long as they get a step on the defender, they're doing their job. Sanchez just isn't finding them or is throwing inaccurately whenever he has a bad game. Even in his better games, he misses a lot of open receivers. People keep saying that the loss of Edwards hurt the deep passing game, but there have been many receivers getting open deep as well. Off the top of my head from the Giants game, McKnight got open deep and someone else got open deep on another play where Sanchez took a sack because he held onto the ball too long. Sanchez plays the most important position in the game, and it has come to a point where the Offensive Coordinator is limited and can't call an effective offense because of Sanchez. That's to be expected for a young QB, but eventually he needs to step it up. The majority of Jet fans are making excuse after excuse for Sanchez and blaming Schotty, the O-line, the running game, the wide receivers... yet these units have played well for the most part. None of them are elite, but they've done a good job with a mistake here or there. Sanchez needs to step up and hit his receivers. They are getting open.
*Jets at Halftime* Rex Ryan: Alright Men, Nick Folk sucks balls but its alright its only a one possession game, lets get the run game going the 2nd half and take control back. Schotty:
and now i can finally rest easy i dont care anymore what happens this year we should be much better next year. much better.
The only thing objectionable there is the mischaracterization of Schottenheimer as a "scapegoat," since a scapegoat is someone who is blamed unfairly for problems. That ain't Schottenheimer.
This is a good point. Maybe Mark has adifferent idea of what open actually is. Like college football open where you often see a WR WIDE FUCKIN open. That doesnt happen in the NFL too often
Yes I think this is true, and I think a good OC/QB coach should be helipng him with that, but I also think our receivers have to catch balls that are not exactly placed gently in their hands. No rule states you can't catch a ball while jumping. For that matter, no rule states you can't jump for a ball AFAIK.
I'm fine with replacing Schottenheimer, but why should Callahan get promoted? His offensive line has been the weakest link on the offense this season. If we're gonna get a new offensive coordinator, we should make a wholesale system change. Not just keep things the same, with a different guy wearing the headset. Clearly there are deeper problems with our offense than just poor playcalling.
I think you have to let Callahan go also. He's too invested in Matt Slauson and he signed off on Hunter and both of those things are at the root of the Jet's problems on offense this season. Looking at New Orleans offensive line on Monday night reminded me of what a quality offensive line looks like. the Jets aren't even close to a quality line at this point and that includes having an all-pro center and a really good left tackle alongside a good veteran guard. It's embarrassing that the line is so poor given the great pieces it has to start with.
How will Rex approach this though? He's already said he let's Schotty run the Offense with out his Imprint. Will he have more of a say? Will this man learn offense? Will he become a full coach?
I'd like a new, proven, OC to come in with his own coaches. We don't need to promote from within because they have good relationships with their superiors.
I wouldn't promote callahan to OC. the weakest part of this years offense is arguably the offensive line. without a strong offensive line you pretty much can't do anything. Bring a new OC in with a new system. Allowing callahan to implement a system similar to that of schotty's isnt going to answer whether or not sanchez is the answer at qb. We need a scheme that will fit sanchez and his strengths.
See I don't think Cally is a moron like schotty. And you don't throw one of the best line coaches under the bus for one off season. He gave a pass on Hunter because quite frankly Hunter looked great last year in the playoffs, I guess it was a fluke. In any case Cally wokring with Hunter is like telling a Chef to cook a good meal with a pile of shit. Shit is still shit, regardless of how much you spice it. There's also something shady regarding Woody not wanting to cough up the $$$ for someone else, don't know how true that is though. He's got a good resume from his work in Oakland, he knows the system so it will be easier on everybody, and he will most likely get us back to a run-first team. I think Cally is the best option outside of Norv Turner or Josh McDaniels.
