"Get the fuck out". Bahahaha....oh well. Owners can pony up as much coin as they want to hire anybody, anywhere, anytime they want. Coaching and Scouting are the two big areas teams control without concern over the salary cap. Unfortunate the cost of Coaching and Scouting hit the bottom line, straight out of the owners pocket, so this is also the two areas that cheap ass owners keep as low as possible. Whatever the avg Scouting staff is in the NFL, I'd have one 100 times bigger. Fuck, I'd be scouting high school star athletes and hiring PI's to thoroughly investigate the 'lifestyle' of every potential draft pick. And not just a month before the draft, but like 2 years before the draft. Coaching and Scouting are the only two areas a team can gain a true advantage.
i hope bradway is not being "replaced" by this chap gene smith from the jags - owners of that stellar draft record over several years..... he is one letter away, so to say, from being the geno smith of the front office.
Brown in the 6th, Emmanuel Sanders in the 3rd, Mike Wallace in the 3rd, Martavis Bryant in the 4th, Markus Wheaton in the 3rd round. It's such amazing mid-round talent evaluation for one position.
Gene Smith makes Terry Bradway's drafts look like the 1970's Steeler drafts. NO WAY he should be on the Jets. If he does, my Spidey Sense will be tingling.
Wheaton has been underwhelming thus far compared to those other names. But for a 3rd round pick, you can't complain. Idiot Idzik passed on Bryant when he took Jalen Saunders? Agreed 100% though. Whoever scouts WRs for the Steelers is a guy we desperately need to bring in. It's an absolute embarrassment the WRs off the street that we've been trotting out there as starters and rotational players over the years.
Nobody makes terry bradway look good. Nobody. But I can't disagree with your point about Gene Smith. You can sum up his resume with 2 words: Blaine Gabbert.
Charlie, the very fact that they were WILLING & ABLE to clean house shows huge progress IMO. Nothing is guaranteed but doing the same thing repeatedly with the same elements in place expecting different results is by definition insanity. Woody for quite some time was insane for trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. Arrainged partnerships, hiring two GM's that were cap and contract guys and so on. Clearly he's seen the light and for that, this JetFan is grateful. We had no choice. We were not this consistent winner over the last few years but we were indeed mediocre. That had to change. Now if this new regime doesn't hit an immediate homerun, I think this fanbase will give them a lot of slack. I know I will. We don't need to see Mac draft 7 all pros in his first go round as GM. We don't need to see him miss on all of his DP's either. Consistency works when you have a successful template to use. Until you develop that template, you have to keep working at it until you find the right combination of talents in your leadership to create a winning system. Once you have that system in place, then you can be consistent. Whether we have that now or not only time will tell. This regime will get more than 2 years to see the plan thru.
Gene Smith's record with Jax gives pause. Would rather they threw a nice offer (and a case of O'Doul's) at former Seahawk scout Scott McLaughlin.
For the team to really move on and attempt to improve this organization, guys like this need to be let go (unless they have a good body of work, which is highly unlikely with anyone on this team). Good to see Maccagran starting this process. Just hope Gene Smith isn't Bradway's replacement
