I'm guessing Champ is yet another extremist who only thinks there are great players or busts? I love those guys...every first round pick better be a HOF or AT LEAST an All Pro or they're a bust. Got to love someone calling Cotch a #3 WR...
excellent point-as soon as bellichik saw him twice, the rest of the league had the book on how to shut him down.
And Byz, Chad had a great FB in 02, and Sowell was good too subsequently. Another piece that we've been sorely missing recently.
That would have been Terry Bradway, who ironically was seen as a great evaluator of talent despite a surfeit of actual, you know, all-pros that he had drafted.
really isnt one other than to lament on where we could have been right now. had those drafts produced something this team may be in a much different position than it is today. sure its pointless and cant be changed now but i understand some of the posters pain, i also really enjoy bashing sperm. so here is my 2 cents FU SPERM
It allows you to be a negitive SOB while we are having a good offseason. "I can't find a new reason to bitch, I may as well revisit an old one."
I like this post why bitch and complain about things that happened with another regime, that most of us can agree with, were pretty lost. Lets just pick up the pieces and move on with our new regime who I believe is doing a great a job and I think will make everyone happy on draft day. And Champ I think a good point about the 1st round failures we had is a good one, but you need to pat them on the back (or at least give credit, patting on the back seems a little much for all their fuck ups) for Cotch and Rhodes, and even Simon P (thats all that are coming to my head right now). We all know how good Rhodes is, Simon seems like he is going to be a solid player, and calling Cotch a 3rd WR is just pleading to ignorance, there is no way you can say he is a 3rd at best without having seen him play and the effort he gives. A lot of teams would take him in a heartbeat for a 2nd WR.
The Playoffs I have to agree with section134, who points out how the Jets managed to make the playoffs under the Edwards/Bradway regime. Whether they did it with Bill's players or draft picks or your momma, they made the damn playoffs. Right now, it's possible that Mangini made the playoffs in his frist season by inheriting Herm Edwards players/system/etc. There are many question marks about their recent moves... Vilma was considered by many NFL experts to be a great player and we just gave him away for... Whatever. Bottom line: We won't know if Tangini is a worthwhile regime or not until next year. This is what we Jets fans need to think about: Do you think the Jets match up well against Tom Brady, Randy Moss and the Patriots? Peyton Manning and the Colts? LT and the Chargers? And the rest of the AFC? Or are we going to be just a few games better that we were last year? And will a "slight improvement" be considered "progress" considering all the money and moves that Tangini made in the offseason?
Edwards lived off of Parcells' talent...the O-line, Abe, Ellis, Martin, Fergy... Hell, two of the more talented young players the Edwards/Bradway regime drafted didn't even break out until Mangini came in. No, we don't. But we can speculate, and personally what I see I like. Yep, we *could* have at one point...if Edwards/Bradway built on what Parcells gave them instead of just sitting on it. "A few games better" in the NFL is significant BTW...just sayin...theres only 16 games. Yes. I have no idea why money is a factor considering: 1. The cap is slowly dying, and may not even exist in a few years. 2. We don't have too much info on the actual contract numbers. 3. These acquisitions impact more than just one year...
Nah they did not win a CHAMPIONSHIP now did they? Taking 134 logic you can say they struck out 3 times when they had the opportunity by not winning a CHAMPIONSHIP right? For sure 5 #1 failures has to set back the team which I am sure it has, so to sum up they failed to win a CHAMPIONSHIP & then they failed to make the team stronger so it could win a CHAMPIONSHIP. Really speaks many volumes about the 2 of them
honestly, do you know how hard it is to win a SB? I know the Jets suck at it for 40 years. But it is really really hard to win it all.
Our first rounders haven't exactly lit it up, have they. Vilma, I will say, is more a product of the environment and system rather than not living up to expectations. All other Herm Dumbway picks were horrible.
