Well, it's official. The only football I'll be following from here on out is fantasy football. The Jets don't try, so why should I get emotionally invested?
I'd rather see Petty, but to be fair, Fitz threw 5 td's and no int's against the Pats last year. Of course, he had Ivory and Decker helping him out. Ron
No, I'm just more grounded in reality than you. Have fun pumping out essay replies about the Jets, Chief Crazyhorse.
$12million dollars..... A lot of reputation is riding on that contract. After calming down, to me this reeks of a face saving move by the entire FO/CS. Bowles starting the WORSE QB IN THE NFL saying it gives us the best chance to win in reality is taking a bullet for the GM's stupidity for outbidding himself for said QB. The GM has to take the heat for the Owner for 2 things now. First, the Revis Contract which is amounting to the second Lufthansa Heist. Woody was the driving force behind this as the embarrassment of seeing Revis win a SB with the Patriots may have been a bit too much for our version of South Park's Mr. Mackey. Quite the Clusterfuck we got going on at Florham Pk. I guess the Circus found its way home after all..
The season is over man....Fitz could run the table starting this sunday and it wont save face for shit 9-7 and sitting home with no direction or future is worse than giving Petty some reps regardless of win-loss Everyone else understands that, why doesn't our leadership
This might be a defining point for this regime. I've said it before. The better run franchises are not afraid of admitting their mistakes. They cut bait with second round rookies who can't get on the field in their second year. They start the better player, regardless of their salary or draft position. Petty isn't necessarily better than Fitz, but he can't be much worse, and he'll certainly have a chance at a roster spot next year. This is as much the franchise refusing to admit they were wrong on Fitz as anything. And that is why this is a gutterball move for a gutter bound franchise.
Your response that Anderson had his best game vs the Rams is actually not true if you actually watch the game instead of relying on just receiving yards stats. In fact I'd say Anderson's games against the Ravens and Dolphins were better overall performances. You might have been able to make a case for the Rams game if Petty didn't overthrow a wide open Anderson, which would have been a sure touchdown and most likely won the game. BOTTOM LINE Petty is NOT ready, and the coaches know this. That's the current REALITY. No BS about it buddy.
Bowles loves his vets even though his defense won't play hard for him. He seems to have a hard stance in that if he isn't happy with your practices then he won't give you a starting role. But that kinda goes out the window when you're 3-7. I personally put no stock into how someone has practiced as it's been an excuse since the Rex era of "Well, we had a really great practice" after getting destroyed in a real game. He's trying to be a mini-Parcells by standing by his laurels of discipline and accountability, but he's being waaaay too hard on his younger players and way too easy with the vets.
The bottom line is that the HC of the NYJ's refuses to admit the season is over because the team he put together underperformed. Because he cannot admit that REALITY, he'd rather start the WORST QB IN THE NFL because the rookie didn't throw 10 TD's in a game where the OC called a game not even worthy of pop warner let alone the NFL. The reality is this HC is in waay over his head and we're gonna pay the price for it by delaying the inevitable. The reason why Petty isn't ready in their opinion is because THEY FAILED TO DEVELOP THE PLAYER. They failed to properly develop Petty because they were so consumed bidding against themselves for the services of the worst QB in the league for $12mil. Since Bowles is of the opinion that the worst QB in the league gives this team our best chance to win, what happens if and when we lose and lose badly? Will he still feel that way? A better question might be: Would Bowles be able to recognize Qb talent if it fell on him? Can this CS develop young talent on the offensive side of the ball? You want BS? I give you the CS of the 2016 New York Jets as Exhibit A. Please Macc, trade Petty somewhere that they know what a Qb looks like or how to develop one. Staying with the jets is career suicide for any young QB.
I don't recall Anderson having stood out in each of those games. But I don't think you would see dropoff in his production with Petty. You may be right about the QB decision, but your certainly in the minority. If they don't trust Petty in meaningless games, they might as well cut him and move on.
IF I had not given up my season tickets years ago this move would make me do it now ! I would like to know who made this call THE GM or Coach ? In reality it does not matter to me as I am done with the entire front office and I am also upset that this game is no longer nationally televised as that is what Woody deserves ! Yep Im with CMan and many others ,,,I think the Pats would beat us regardless of who is playing qb but you have to start playing ALL the kids at this point to see what they have ! Starting Fitz and then attempting to justify it is laughable ! The Pats are going to beat us bad and sadly I can honestly say I don't mind and can only hope it speeds up the process of CLEANING HOUSE as this house is clearly a mess,,,Im disgusted !
Come on folks, no one should be surprised. We still have 6 games to go. Now if we drop the next 2, petty will surely start the last 1/4 of the season. No doubt. If we happen to win the next 2, fitz remains in. And if we split, who knows? What else can they do???? Team is absolutely snakebit at QB......despite namath bringing in a SB. we could have been in the bowl at least 3 times with a healthy namath. The list of could have beens at QB for this team is a helluva lot better than the list of actual QB's over the last 40 years.
Yanno Jil, you're right man.. We shouldn't be surprised by this. Its how the Jets roll. False hope, mirages, has beens, you name it. If there's a way to fck up a wet dream, this CS will find a way to do it. Bowles can't admit this season is over although we all knew it was 2017 back in Miami. Not sure who's ass Bowles is covering with this bullshit but it certainly reeks of CYA. Maybe its that $12mil Macc flushed down the drain with Fitz when he outbidded himself. Could it be the $17mil burned in the dumpster fire that is Darelle Revis in coverage. Or perhaps a combination of all of that and Wilks contract that leading to this modern day "Custer's last stand" on Sunday.
I am not advocating for Fitz to start or defending Bowles but several things to consider While I am for Petty starting, he is simply not ready for the Pats. ...He did lose 6 weeks of valuable time...but as LI Blitz stated, if he was the future, he would be starting. More importantly the Jets have offense pieces for the future unfortunately we don't have the QB at the moment. Read some posts here that "...winning at this point is meaningless"...From Pluse Jet, "What matters is getting the young guys the experience they need and for the team to play better AS a team." True, perhaps ask ourselves this, how are we going to get guys like Anderson, Enunwa, Peake get more involved offensively and learn to compete with teams like the Pats? Can Petty get them involved? Maybe. But the better answer right now may be Fitz, regardless being the worst QB in NFL who could be more important to the young WRs and a couple of the young OL. Sure building chemistry with future QB helps but do we have a future QB in Petty? But we do know that Anderson, Enunwa, Peake, OL Johnson may play a pivotal roles next year and after so more importantly perhaps we should focus on what would be best to get these young guys involved to learn to play right. If we win, that gives them huge boost...If we lose, at least hopefully they more involved in the plays... We are focusing way too much attention dumping Bowles for not starting Petty...What about Defense? Does that mean that Harris shouldn't play LB anymore because he is a 10-year veteran and not the future for us? IMO, Jenkins, Mauldin, Lee will learn better with Harris in the center... Bottom line, Bowles and the Jets are going to play to win and they should...What we have going for us next year is building these young WRs and Johnson...Lets figure out a way to build them forward....Lets figure out a way to get Defense to build forward....
