I don't know Fitz is in a situation where his play this one year would normally net him a 12 mill range contract but I think everyone knows this is the perfect fit for him and other teams will be hesitant to give him a big contract bringing his value down. I think he knows this as well and I don't think he will hold the Jets for a ransom. This is just speculation on my part though so we will have to wait and see if we have to up the ante for him to stick around. I would stick to 2-3 yr range around 7-8 mill.
Agree 100% with this. Guarantee a large protion of the contract but at much lower $$$ than being reported
There's no doubt that Geno would have looked better his rookie season with a better OL and better receivers/RBs/weapons around him. For one thing it would have helped his decision making and cut down on the interceptions. I doubt it would have stopped his stepping out of the end zone and taking a safety or taking 20 yard sacks, however. There are some basic fundamentals to playing the position that Geno either never learned, doesn't care about, or forgets when he's under pressure. I wish it were different because physically, he is very talented, but I've pretty much given up on him being anything other than a backup. I agree that Fitz isn't worth $12 million per season, and I don't think the Jets could pay that anyway unless they trade Mo and fill 1/3 of the roster with rookie UDFAs. If he signs for $8-$9 million per year, with much of that being incentives, I could live with that.
I totally disagree with that notion. IMO it's totally absurd and belies everything that Mac has said, and ever move that Mac has made.
The system definitely helped, but then he mastered that system (according to Briley) and made it work at the high level at which it did. His arm talent is a big plus, of course, but I'd say so is his football IQ and work ethic. It's funny...I had either never noticed his lazy feet before or had forgotten about them, but watching that highlights video, I sure saw them just now. His throws were all arm. He didn't use his legs/body at all. That's one of the things I don't like about Connor Cook. That doesn't fly in the NFL. It will lead to incompletions, and worse, interceptions and pick 6s. I hope that's one of the things on which they've been working with Petty. He is much more accurate than Connor Cook, however, even with the lazy feet.
look at that irony LOL, but I would hope Petty has a better completion % considering how wide open all of the receivers are in the Baylor offense. Cook needs to prove he's healthy to the scouts, because I saw a QB clearly injured against Bama. Cook and Wentz are 2 guys I wouldn't mind. Confident throwers of the football, and good physical size.
Dont get me wrong geno is trash. He wouldn't have been as horrible with a better team. Im saying I dont wanna see petty go down that same path. Need to see a rookie succeed I hope we dont overpay for Fitzy is all. Hes had 1 good season out his 10 and hes wt the back end of his career. Hes not Tom Brady. Hes not going to get better. Hes never been the best.
I agree with your comments regarding Geno... it's his mental acuity that comes into question. His decision making was/is piss poor and look no further then the OAK game (his off the field behavior) this year for the same "lack of situational awareness" that is a trait of his. I would give Fitz 2 years 10 mil w/ 10 guaranteed. Move Petty up to #2 and trade - if possible Geno for whatever you can get and draft another QB.
I love how the same board who demanded we keep matt simms around and give him starting reps is the same board who doesnt want to retain the guy who just broke a bunch of jets all time passing records.
I knew you'd get a kick out of this! Considering how important a fundamental I think it is in QBs, I don't know why I didn't spot that before, unless it was because in the live games I saw him play I had never really thought of him coming to the Jets. I so wanted Mariota. The film of his games and highlights I saw after the Jets had drafted him, and there was so much going on at that time in RL and with all the new Jets players and discussion, I just missed it, or didn't make a mental note of it. Now that I see it, I'm a little less confident in his becoming the starter, and it makes me doubly certain that I don't want yet another QB on the roster with that same bad fundamental. Sorry, I know you like him a lot, I respect your opinion, and I may live to regret it, but that's one player I don't want the Jets to even consider.
Of course it's an absolute. Bowles made up his mind, if Fitz returns there will not be any competition, he's the #1. Now that doesn't mean Fitz will be guaranteed the starting job no matter what. If he falls on his face, whatever, that's on him. But there won't be any competition and I don't think Fitz has earned that right. Not at this stage of his career with his limitations and the tendencies he has, that he won't get rid of, tendencies he's had his entire career (forcing throws, staring guys down, gunslinger mentality). He wasn't good enough this year, what makes you or anybody think getting older is going to make him any better, improve his zip, whatever? He was good this season, I do want him back. But let him compete. Nothing good comes out of naming him the starter a year in advance when he's about to hit free agency.
Lol until he names the starter the week before the season anything can change but Bowles would look like the biggest idiot in the world if he declared the QB position an open competition right now. Like fucktard stupid. _
Connor Cook was not injured his whole MSU career. He's been inaccurate his whole time there. I know, he is making big boy throws into NFL tight windows blahblahblah. He's a career below 58% passer in COLLEGE including all those gimme easy games against cupcakes all with a perrenial great offensive line. If you watch Petty and you watch Cook and you think their accuracy is similar then I'm not sure what to say. _
