Bowles was fine. Nothing he said like really stood out to me. Pretty run of the mill presser. He wasn't obnoxious which is a different direction than Rex and I welcome it. Maccagnan on the other hand, I was very impressed with. He seems like a friendly down to earth guy who legitimately knows the game. He was discussing the draft and said the positions he thought the draft was strong and it went with what everyone else (including me) thought. Hopefully he addresses the positions that he said the draft is deep out. Quick question: I didn't catch one part of the interview. How many players are you allowed to interview at the combine? Is it 60 or 6? I saw the Jets are interviewing both QB's this weekend. If they are only allowed 6 interviews and two of them are QB's than I think that is very telling. If its 60 players, that doesn't interest me as much.
I'm not getting excited about anything until after free agency and the draft,Press confrences don't win games.
I wonder how long it will take the media to turn on Bowles and Mac for not providing enough "sexy" quotes.
Exactly. I have been mesmerized by pressers before and things that were said didn't reflect to the game on the field. Let both do their jobs and let's see what they show before we praise them. Good thing about their pressers are they don't look like idiots and they know what they are talking about. After Rex and Idzik, for sure they are a breath of fresh air.
Im just so used to being let down by this team at this point that I can't get excited until I see moves being made
Pfffttt....moves being made. I have to wait until late December before I let my eyes believe what they are seeing one way or the other.
I don't think that's necessarily a shot at Rex...But I would definitely say Bowles knew exactly what was said around here, and exactly how things were run. To me that was Bowles sayin': there's a new sheriff in town, and things are gonna change. Beautiful....
I've had the misfortune of being stuck at home recovering on injured reserved for the last six weeks, so I've watched a ton of NFL Network and got to see Rex's presser at the combine. He spent the first five minutes doing an uncomfortably unfunny riff on pitchers and catchers reporting and spring training with the Buffalo Bisons. I don't miss that.
Between chicken chasers, 'process' preachers and a foot fetish director, the breath of normalcy that Bowles appears to bring to the HC position certainly is refreshing...
I was very impressed with both. Bowles was very candid but insightful...players have to show it on the field why they deserve to be part of the team. You don't win games in Feb and you have to beat all your opponents, not just obsessing on one team. Our new GM simply portraits an aura of totally understated confidence and knowledge. Quiet, humble but effective. Time will tell, but I have a damned good feeling about both of them.
One of the worst things about Ryan's tenure with the Jets was how he would talk up playing the Pats, and not Miami. Now I konw it was not a necessary connection, but it was interesting that the Jets, who previously would beat Miami most of the time, ended up having a losing record under Ryan. I hated that.
