Mussina has not been able to go deep into games this year. And against the Red Sox he typically struggles to get past the 5th. Hopefully he will pitch well tonight and get the Yankees the win. Tavarez is shaky, he has decent stuff, but its a matter of control for him.
I wouldn't be shocked if Mussina went on the DL after this, unless he's been consistently this low velocity wise this season. He's been at 85-87 with his fastball, where I remember him at 92-94. Drops in velocity like that are usually due to an elbow problem.
