I'll give Boomer a pass here. The statements he made aren't too inaccurate. Somewhere, sometime within the "next 10 years" the Jets may have a losing season. Hell, if I was a betting man, I'd take that action. And this is currently a Yankees, Giants, Rangers, Knicks town. Even though the latter 2 are terrible, the interest far outwheighs any other teams. As for second fiddle the the Giants, we are in prime position to dethrone them. We have the interest and headlines, now we need the hardware to go with it. It starts tomorrow.
I am a Jet Met and Ranger fan. I dont watch basketball but Knicks will always be ahead of the Nets. The Mets are and always will be the other baseball team in NY I know that and I still root for them. The Rangers are a first class organization and will always be ahead of the Islanders. The Jets however can easily take this town. Football is such a different sport and while currently the Giants own this city we can easily take it back with a SB ring and a few good runs. They have 3 Champs to our 1, Jets have a very good shot to be the toast of the town.
Plus, he isn't saying anything bad about the Jets. He's saying when it crashed "3 or 5 or 10 years from now it won't be pretty. For this year he says... “It’s great to have a fresh new start with a stadium that you spent money to build,” Esiason said. “And right now they have the right guys in place to get the most out of it, assuming they get Darrelle Revis back.” I think some folks on here read a ngative thread title, and comment without even reading the story...
No one cares about the Devils. The Devils have been a perennial playoff team for the past 22 years (only missed the playoffs 2 times in that span). They won the cup 3 times... and guess what? Still no one cares. The Devils have their niche and that's it. More people know about the Rangers 1994 Cup than any of the Devil's Cups. When the Rangers are doing well, people start talking Rangers hockey. Never do I hear random people talking about the Devils. That's just how it is. They will never have the kind of popularity and presence as the Rangers simply due to the fact that the Rangers play in Manhattan, have been around for generations, and are New York's team. The Jets vs. Giants thing to me is a completely different beast. The Jets fan base may not be as big as the Giants, but it's quite close. When the Jets win the Super Bowl, it will be a big deal. IMO, it'll be bigger than any Super Bowl that the Giants have won (the one against the Pats was more that the Pats lost than the Giants winning). I can't wait to see that day.
Considering they both work for WFAN, I think he sees him just about everyday (unless he gets to the studio late everyday).
a response to an incredibly gay statement First of all, what town are you talking about? Second, what does your statement actually mean? Are buildings painted in Giants colors? Do streetlights have the Yankees logo on them?
I'd rather the Jets be in danger of a big fall. If you were on the bottom that wouldn't be possible. I could be completely off base but I think Boomers point is that Ryans style won't be tolerated very long in New York if the team isn't producing. Back to back losing seasons (even at 7-9) could be enough to have him crucified in the media and run out of town.
That title is very misleading, he is saying Rex won't have staying power but he has picked the jets to go to the Super Bowl this year.
The funny thing is the same thing can be said for Coughlin. if they didn't have that miracle run in 2007 he'd be gone already and if they don't make the playoffs this year he will likely be gone.
He was, even w/ a playoff app. He needed to go deep into january and they did or else he would have been fired.
He feels better about his Metsees looping the Jets and Nets and Devils in with them, don't you dare compare the Jets to the Mets who are one step above the Knicks. He hates the Jets because we the fans treated him like crap when he played for us. Bitter dirt bag
