jesus h christ. sutton has been here so long that everyone seems to have forgotten how much they hated him. i cant believe he has been around for 12 years. 5 years ago everything wrong with the jets was suttons fault. now nobody cares its all cavanaughs fault.
I don't know if Cavanaugh is really that bad but: 1. He is a sure Debbie Downer - a no-no for any coaching position. 2. If you are trying to install a new system, then you'd better get the whole package. Cavanaugh is not familiar with E/P system - that's my guess. 3. Moreover, there is a candidate that is familiar with the system, had success and is currently jobless as we speak. (That would be Dan Henning.)
Adam Schein @AdamSchein Risposta Retweet Preferiti · Apri Jets talked to at least 5 different people I know of to be their QB coach. Stunning, and counterproductive, that Matt Cavanaugh is back.
So Cavanaugh is back not because of the great job he's done with Sanchez, but that we couldn't find a suitable replacement. Wow, that's not saying a helluva lot for Cavanaugh is it. Here by default I think would be the term that applies. Regarding Sutton.. As long as he's not involved with the game planning I'm ok with him being in the shadows.. Deeeep in the shadows. Perhaps the back row of the coaches' booth would be good.
While I agree that coaches tend to hire their own people, Sparano did pull in Googs, and he's worked with Lynn before. Changing a QB coach for the sake of change isn't always the right move. I'm sure some of Sparano's coaches wanted to move on as well. If you never worked with people before there's a chance these people can become "your guys". Its part of building relationships in the good 'ol boys network.
Because Sutton was never a bad coach, just a bad coordinator. When Parcels swears by your coaching ability, that means something. As long as he isn't the DC and calling the plays, I'm ok with any title they want to give him.
yeah, but in his most recent job as OC for the fins, Henning SUCKED the BIG ONE, so I'm not to sure about him.
We are talking about Dan Henning THE QUARTERBACK COACH, not Dan Henning THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR. Also, Peter Principle dictates that Henning shouldn't get any promotion beyond QB coach. (Or he will fail.) Is that clear?
Seriously, we should get a new QB coach. Mark has the skills, he just needs the coaching. Get Pennington NOW!!!!! as the QB coach.
Mark definitely has all the physical tools to become a great QB and from what ive seen/heard he is a hard worker. The one thing that alarms me is that he hasnt gotten any better at reading defenses. Recently when shit hits the fan Sanchez has begun to "regress" and look not to make mistakes, he needs to stop staring down his number 1 on each play even if it is a quick slant, he needs to trust in his players and realize he can look off the defender for a second and come back to the same guy for a completion. I have always been a Sanchez guy because quite honestly I just dont want to have to deal with another "NYJ QB FAILURE" we have been through far far far too many of those. so here are some possible reasons for his inability to read defenses properly. 1) Schottys system was supposedly so complex that half the time he had to tell Mark where to LOOK for the open reciever. (ahemm stare down problem). 2) Recievers have no continuity and Mark truly didnt trust in their abilities to run the correct route or make the correct read on a given play. -I hope Kerley coming back and Holmes participating in OTAs will help to build some of this confidence. 3) Lack of the O-line this year had Sanchez "gun shy" looking at the rush rather than looking downfield. Every QB has an internal clock, but when you never know how long your line can hold up for you tend to rush decisions and miss open targets. It happens. 4) plays in with 3 but I really think we need to upgrade our line and draft a blue chip RB such as Richardson. I know many of you are against trading up this year but T. Rich is an absolute monster, the type of back that can consistently put up 120+ yards a game out of the gate. We give Testaverde (happens to be a good friend of mine and an awesome guy) and Penny alot of credit for their success but we seem to forget they both had the BEST RB of our era behind them through their whole career. **Many of you may disagree with me but I really think Sanchez has shown that when he doesnt need to "think" he can play phenomonal ball. Im hoping that with a toned down offense "less is more approach" we can really see him blossom into a solid reliable QB this year. I guess time will tell, sometimes the right system changes everything, lets hope in this case thats true. oh well gotta go back to work...talk to you guys later...be good
