People immediately correlate lack of QB pressure with lack of blitzing. That's not it. Sure, when we don't blitz, we don't get to the QB with our front three, but even when we send 5-6 guys, we don't get there. We still don't have a dominant pass rusher. Remember, even the Jets FO knew we didn't have one. That's why we drafted Gholston. Since Gholston's rookie year has been a total flame out, we still don't have one.
I remember that statement and it seemed weird to me since the Jets blitzed the Pats a lot in the prior games and had much success with it.
Exactly. I've been saying forever that the number one thing people do on this board is confuse lack of execution with "bad play-calling". The most common example of it on this board is when people claim that we never blitz .. . Which is completely not true.
The Jets got killed by blitzing the Pats in the first Jets-Pats game this year. Sure, they had five sacks but they gave up HUGE first downs on 3rd and long all day on screens to Falk and Welker. The Pats are great at dealing with the blitz. Just ask the Dolphins.
You are way off base here. First of all, the Pats are tremendous at dealing with the blitz. They killed us in our first game when we blitzed. They hit big screens on 3rd down all day on us. Sure, we sacked Cassel 5 times that day, but we gave up huge 3rd down after huge third down. Also, we are no where near as effective of a blitzing team as you seem to think. A LOT of our sacks have actually come from the the 3 man rush that everyone on this board hates (almost all of Pace's sacks have come from this formation with him as the other pass-rushing defensive end opposite Ellis on 3rd and long). When we send extra rushers, we usually don't get there and we usually give up big plays down the field. There's not much more to say.
