This can clearly be chalked up to an abrupt switch from short relief to starting, so it's not a fair measure for the kid. If he started coming out of spring training, griping would be more fair. Still impatient, but fairer. I'm guessing he'll be fine by the second half - which is pretty much when you'll need him and why this was the time to make the switch. The REAL problem won't be Joba, it will be the massive hand-wringing that begins the first time the Yankees drop a late inning lead. Girardi can't waffle. If he's a starter, he should be a starter for good, or the problems compound.
Oh theres definintely no turning back....they cant and they wont. i am just looking forward to a season where we break spring training with an actual team. a 5 man rotation that is set. a full bull pen with at least 3 reliable guys in it. a lefty in the bullpen. and a team without 5 DH's on the roster. All of these chores fall on cashman's shoulders. which means it wont get done.
moose really needs to be a stopper tonite....this losing is awful.. i hope posada dh's tonite.. this team needs a chnge and him in the lineup would be great
A .302 AVG in 18 games, with 6 doubles, a triple, and a homer isn't exactly the definition of "suck". He wasn't lighting the world on fire, but he wasn't exactly failing either. Compound it with the fact that no one at all was hitting back then, and there's enough reason to believe he'll be a big improvement to the lineup when he returns.
C.B. Bucknor is fucking horrid behind the plate tonight. One inning he's calling pitches in the batters box a strike, the next he's calling pitches on the black outside.
Game wasn't tied and he didn't have to hold a 1-run lead. Still have major doubts about him, I wouldn't be gloated about holding a 4 run lead when the previous night he blew a pressure situation.
New York Daily News, Thursday, 6/5/08.............."Don't think Chamberlain's move to the rotation isn't being second-guessed in the Yankee clubhouse. Not that anyone doubts he has the goods to be a No. 1 starter. The argument is where he helps the Yankees most right now, and I get the impression that if players voted by secret ballot, there would be a strong majority to send him back to the bullpen. Damon didn't come right out and say he opposed the move, as he spoke before Wednesday night's 5-1 victory over the Blue Jays. But he made it clear that he feels the Yankees had a better chance to succeed with Joba and Mariano Rivera teaming to lock down games in the late innings"
I agree w/ you. My concern was some crazy yankee fans would go nuts after an outing like this. he needs time, I think he'll be fine along w/ the other 2 and if it takes sucking it up and missing the playoffs this year I can live w/ that.
Congrats to Jeter on passing Mickey mantle on the all-time Yankee hit list. Up next- some guy named Babe Ruth.
Come on already. He's been fine in other pressure situations this year. People are simply looking for a way to call Joba's move to the rotation a failure. It's already ridiculous, but now it's starting to make people look like they lack simple understanding of the sport.
