Wow. With reasoning like this, you'd be lucky to rank as "so-so" on a test of mental faculties. (And at least I'm using a decent sample size to make that judgment.) Ho-hum. Usual crew saying the usual things.
OK, let's wait 5 starts. How about 10 starts? We can afford to experiment. The Rays, Sox and Jays will nose dive after the All-Star break, right? The Yankees can overcome any deficit to make the playoffs. It's a given.
The Lineup isnt terrible, its inconsistent. They explode for 3 or 4 games, then cant hit for shit for 3 or 4 games. They do not hit with risp, that is a big concern.
I said before the season I'm not expecting the playoffs, nor will I be upset if they don't make it. As long as Joba gets his innings and experience as a starter, and rehabbing pitchers like Melancon, Cox, Sanchez get their arms ready to contribute to the MLB team full time by next year, I don't care much what the Rays, Sox, or Jays do.
I gave up on the playoffs weeks ago. All I ask is that Boston not win another WS....that seriously might send me over the edge.
I love it. I mentioned this a couple weeks ago, but it seems like a good time to bring it up again. When Mangini took over the Jets, he was given the leeway of a three-year plan. Then when he had a dismal second year, more than half of his supporters went searching for torches. When Girardi was hired, everyone figured it might be a bumpy road at least through the first year. Well, we're not even halfway through the season yet and people are freaking out about the realistic probability of missing the playoffs. Now I'm pissed off at the way this team is playing, but it's because guys who should be playing at a certain level just aren't. Molina shit the bed defensively tonight, and it cost Joba. Cano can't hit. Jeter, Abreu, and ARod while hitting, aren't hitting as well as we'd expect. Pettitte and Wang have struggled lately. The pen is just one big sinkhole with only Mo being dominant, and Farnsworth and Ramirez being mostly consistent. The severe underperformance is just sickening to me. I don't mind losing, but get beat, don't beat yourselves.
The Yankees are angering me to no end lately. They are better than this. No excuses. I am not blaming Girardi, but the team needs to step up.
Joba will probably end up being a good starter. The problem as I said before the game started is that he wasn't ready to start yet. The walks killed any chance of going 4 or 5 innings. Chalk that up to nerves I guess. That and the fact that batters are more patient when the game is early and they aren't behind. Joba is not used to seeing that at this level. Didn't seem to me he threw many sliders or if he did it didn't have it's normal nasty break.
Things didn't go quite as planned but it was his first start, you cannot expect to win a game where the pen takes over in the 3rd against halladay. I would have preferred they started him when he could have thrown more pitches but he got his work in and should be better the next time around w/o the big buildup.
