There are so many moronic posts in this thread that I just can't really bother figuring out which one to ridicule first.
Well thank God fans don't run football teams, We don't need to blow up the team jseus christ. We need to replace 8 or 9 players on the team a few on offense and a few on defense and we would be fine. If I have to make a realistic list of who needs to be replaced or cut or traded it goes like this in no particular order. Mike Devito,Bart Scott,Sioune Pouha,Calvin Pace,Scielnz,Turner,Cumberland,Bryan Thomas,Shonn Greene and maybe Matt Slauson oh and Eric Smith how can i forget him
I were given the opportunity to run things this is what I would do. Looking at the overall team there is a lot of talent here. You just need toreplace certain players and maybe get lucky in the draft and get a few key pieces. Long term players (these are players that are apart of the Jets long term future) offense Dustin Keller- could be one of the best TE in the league, but his potential has yet to be fullfilled as a member of the Jets. Stephen Hill- Right now he's raw but he has potential to be a beast of a receiver. Jermey Kerley- Good in his slot role. Santonio Holmes- Outside of the incident at the end of last season, he has not been a problem here in NY. Due to his contract he may be around for awhile plus he is a solid receiver. Nick Mangold and DaBrickshaw Fergusen- The stallworths of our offensive line both guys are 27 years old and still have a lot left. defense Quinten Coples- He's very young and athletic and is probably the 2nd best defensive player on the team. Everytime he's out there he makes plays yet Rex loyalty to the vets is taking precedence. Demario Davis- He is a LB with speed that can drop back into coverage or help out against the run. Kendrick Ellis- He'll probably replace Puoha in a year or two. Mohammed Wilkerson- He is a solid run stopper and tackler. Darrelle Revis- This goes without saying Antonio Cromartie- Apart of the best CB tandem in the league. Laron Landry- He is still young (only 27) if he can stay healthy he may be a staple of our saftey corp for a while. David Harris- solid defensive player Players that will be gone within a year or two offense Brandon Moore- He was a good player in his prime but now he's old and slow and at the end of his career. Shonne Greene- He is the worst starting running back in the league. He has no upside and has gotten worse every year. Chaz Schillins- he was brought in as a solution to our receiving issue but he is not very good Patrick Turner- I had a lot of hope for him but he is dropping way too many passes and is probably on the team because he's friends with Sanchez. defense Bart Scott- His best days are behind him Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas- see above Yeramiah Bell- Brought in as a stop gap but he is already 36 years old he'll probably retire either this year or next year. Eric Smith- child please Sionne Puoha- Solid NT but he is at the end of his effectiveness plus we have a young guy waiting in the wings. on the fense (bubble players, meaning they could stay or go depending on how things go) offense Mark Sanchez- This depends on if he wakes the fuck up and starts playing some football again. If this trend continues then he'll be gone real soon, then in that case I would turn to... Greg McElroy- If the Sanchez experiment fails then it's only right we give this kid a shot to see if he can be the long term answer at QB. Unlike Mark he pronbably wont be given as much time to prove himself, so if he doesn't play well enough in 1 season then we may have to turn to the draft. Joe McKnight- Has shown some potential but hasn't really gotten much of an opportunity. Bilal Powell- see above Vlad Duccass- Project player who has shown improvement every year, he may end up the starter once Moore leaves/retires. Matt Slausen- solid player but if Vlad develops into a better player then he becomes expendable. Austin Howard- Has done a servicable job at RT thus far. Jeff Cumberland- Has improved his blocking, and he is an average player in the passing game, the jury is still out on him. Jon Conner- Solid fullback. defense Aaron Maybin- Shown some signs last season but this year he hasn't gotten much playing time, so it's hard to really say. Kyle Wilson- 1st round pick, has been average to this point but he's still young. Joshua Mauga- He is a solid rotation player Jarrett Mcintyre- Has made some nice plays here and there. So looking at the long term players on both sides of the ball, that is how I would determine which players we need to target, the bubble players are more or less guys that could be around for depth purposes, while we get starting caliber players in those positions.
Dude, can you read? I said "I just don't know if ..." regarding player respect for Ryan as a leader, a HC. I didn't make up anything, unless all those foot fetish clips were an aberition. This group has repeated the same mistakes Edwards and Mangini made before them. Ignore the O line. This franchise ONCE used high draft picks on the O line, and how did that work out? Mangold and Brick can't do it alone. What did these clowns do about Hunter, until he almost got Sanchez killed? Did they bother drafting an O lineman? Here's a crazy idea... draft some blue chip O linemen. That worked out real bad the last time this franchise did that, didn't it? Ducasse is a bust, that happens, but he was a high risk high reward pick. He just hasn't come close to his draft day potential. There are other less raw kids coming out of college that are ready to start in the NFL, IF you are willing to spend a first or second round pick. Ryan is a joke. Don't IR Revis so he won't miss the Super Bowl? LMAO. Sanchez at best might some day be an average NFL QB, and optomistically, that's his high side. So, the Jets are 2-2 and it isn't time to panic. That's like saying it's only the kitchen thats on fire, we have 6 more rooms. The Jets will not win 8 games this year. I doubt they can win 7. In any case, right now it's a matter of sitting on the curb and watching it burn. The fire dept isn't coming.
There is only one change I would make to the offense. I'd forget about the modern "mantra" that you don't need a stud running back. Trade up if you have to, but draft a stud running back with game breaking ability. The entire dynamic of the offense would change and having that guy opens up opportunities for even average receivers. Brian hartline just had a 250 yard receiving day and that was all due to the attention Reggie Bush has garnered. The biggest error made by Tannenbaum was not effectively replacing Thomas Jones.Handing the job to Shawn Greene was a huge mistake. As a GM, your job is to evaluate talent independant of what the coaching staff is telling you. He should have seen that greene was not going to be the answer.
Do you really have no idea how football front office operations work? Rex doesn't write anything to anybody, in case you forgot he is the coach and not the GM.
I think it's because the idiot videotaped other men sniffing and kissing his wife's feet and put it on youtube, it's an absolutely moronic thing to do and shows an incredible lack of judgment on his part.
The Head Coach of a football team has enormous input on the draft and the opening day roster, I'm not sure why people don't believe Rex has anything to do with team building, he does.
Not on this team he doesn't...don't you ever listen to what the owner says? Rex coaches the team and Tannenbaum makes all of the personnel decisions. If you don't think that's true then explain Sparano, Tebow, Hill and the list goes on forever.
It's ridiculous to think the head coach of an NFL football team isn't involved at all in personnel decisions, I can't even bother to entertain an argument around it.
Yes, we all think it's ridiculous but that's how it is. Johnson said it the day Rex was announced and has probably said it publicly 25 times since.
Why doesn't every draft pick every team makes in the 1st through 4th round pan out into top-notch stars? We should be trading for Akili Smith! It is ridiculous to think this but.... ...And Rex has said on numerous occasions when he says "I get 1 pick" or "he was my one pick " (e.g. Conner).
Actually, that's often the case which is why some "name" coaches demand to have control over personnel decisions when agreeing to take over the coaching job.
I don't believe it for a second, basically all 1st and 2nd picks have Rex all over them besides maybe Stephen Hill, do people really think Coples, Wilkerson, Wilson etc... weren't Rex picks? I think you guys have the wool pulled over your eyes if you think Rex is not involved in personnel decisions at all.
I don't think anyone is saying that Rex doesn't have any amount of influence what so ever. They are saying that he isn't the one making the decisions and that ultimately, it comes down to Tanny. If Rex wants player X and Tanny wants player Y, guess who's getting drafted ?
We have the same record or better as 22 other teams in the league. How many of the rest of them are calling to blow it up? I'm by no means we should be happy with being mediocre, that's the worst place to be IMO, but we're four games into the season. Four. Plus, I think most people here had us losing the games we lost and winning the games we've won. Personally I still think we can be 4-4 at the bye week and then our last 8 games are a little bit easier. We could maybe finish with 9 or even 10 wins. Is that great? No, but it's not terrible, probably playoff bound.
It works for the Steelers every year...It has to be the right organizational philosophy and the right people, so yes it can be done. Woody has what he wants, bringing in the money and being under the cap by 8 million dollars, money in his pocket.
