because if you've worked for years under someone who is said to be a genius at what you do, wouldn't you want to show that you can do it without him? Especially if you have ambition to move up one day?
they offered to throw in a lifetime card good for all-you-can-eat chicken wings at Anchor Bar. since there's a branch in rochester, he can even indulge during training camp in suburban rochester.:breakdance::beer:
Because when the ship is sinking you either swim or drown. Mike is a swimmer. Rex is going down with this ship.
Mario Williams is very overrated and i think you're highly overrating your secondary. With all those good players you state, scheme or not, you should still be a top 15 at least in defense. Regardless, he is going to a similar bad team that is not going anywhere next year as well. Seems to make more sense to stay here but i assume he just wanted to get out of Rex's shadow and probably thought that Rex was a goner after next year anyways.
You always overrate Buffalo. – not another offseason of this! George Wilson, Nick Barnett and Stephon Gilmore(at least initially) would be riding the pine in NY. Buffalo's DL is the best part of their D, but Dareus is overrated. Mario Williams is a little overrated too for the fact that for some reason he just doesn't show up all the time. If Pettine could shake it out of him, he could flourish. But Dareus is overrated, he doesn't have that fire needed to succeed at this level. You guys might very well lose Byrd in Free Agency. I'm not sold that he's anything special anyway. He played well this year and his rookie year - last year he struggled. I think he's just an average NFL Safety. You guys should try to sign him, but he gets overrated in Buffalo because over the last few years he's been the only guy worth a damn, thus overvalued by the fans. I don't think your F.O. will break the bank for him though if someone else does, because he ain't worth it. I was impressed with that Kyle Moore kid though... he plays with passion and gets better pressure than a lot of the bigger, higher priced names on your D. He could become a player. Pettine will probably have this Defense playing better than that jackass Wannstedt (another guy you overrated before the season hmmm), but the Buffalo LB corps is atrocious. If you are looking for a much better defense overnight, you better hope they acquire some LBs this offseason.
Dareus is not overrated. He had a bad year. His brother was unceremoniously shot and killed right before the season started and he just wasn't the same. Dareus had a lot of younger brothers and sisters and no father. He was the father. He stated multiple times throughout the year that he wasn't himself. He also said once in an interview that it puts into perspective how little football matters in life when you lose someone like that. He didnt play with that passion this season. He wasn't himself. He gets a pass for this year IMO. I dont think you can find any expert or professional who watches film that would say Byrd is not one of the best 3 safeties in all of football. PFF (who watches every snap of every player in the NFL) chose Byrd as their 1st team safety for their All-Pro team: "There isn’t a better deep safety in football than Byrd who picked up five interceptions and only allowed 16 catches all year into his coverage. Byrd has rare range and ability and it’s always on display." Here are some other quotes about Byrd: "Byrd is going to be paid a lot of money, and very soon. There aren’t many ballhawking safeties like the Bill, who has the kind of range that should scare quarterbacks for years to come. He had our highest coverage grade of all safeties and was ranked second overall this year." "Byrd’s work in coverage is second-to-none and he oozes playmaking ability. A real game-changer at the safety position." Both Byrd and Wilson ranked in the top 10 best safeties according to PFF. I did overrate Wannstedt before the year started. I dont know what the hell his problem was. NFL guru's were saying in week 16 that our defense was still just lining up in a straight 4-3 on every snap and just playing. Same look, same coverage, no blitzes, no confusion. It was unbelievable. I expected better than that, which is why I'm excited for Pettine. Our linebackers are the worst part of our defense. That said, Barnett is a good player. Our MLB sucked last year as did out other OLB plus we have no depth. Definitely an area of need going into the offseason. They stink.
Fair enough on Dareus.. the jury is still out I guess and I know he was really affected by his brother's death. This will be a big proving year for him. I still disagree on Byrd though. It will be interesting to see what kind of market he gets and if Buffalo matches. I'd sign Levitre and look at LBs in F.A. before I'd throw any big money at him if I was running the show in Buffalo. You are right about Wanny not blitzing at all, I've never seen a team play like that. I think he was worried about what blitzing would do to his corners though. Gilmore was a rookie, and I watched him play a lot when he was at S. Car (I'm an alum), and while he was playmaker there he would get burned quite a bit when he was left alone / when they blitzed. Also theres a weakness at the other corner too, Aaron Williams is terrible although McKelvin played better this year. It will be interesting to see if Pettine blitzes a lot with you guys and if the secondary can hold up. Buffalo should do whatever it takes to get Te'o in my opinion too.
Here's an interview with Pettine that sheds some light on what defense he will run in Buffalo, his philosophy, and what he will do with the 4-3 v. 3-4. This is from another interview: I love what I'm hearing. After coming off of D-coordinators like Wannstedt and George Edwards, this is music to my freaking ears. No more bend but dont break bullshit. I love it.
Also read that the Jets are going hard after our former QBs coach David Lee. Hope he signs with the Jets........took one offseason to turn Fitzpatrick from a slightly above average QB into a very below average QB. Fitz regressed badly under Lee.
assistant to the assistant coach, Karl Dunbar who is the DL coach and still with the Jets enjoy all those Jet superstar coaches in Toronto, bills fan
Hey hobbes Nothing against ya, but you avi svcks. I see enough of that clown in the media, didn't think I would have to see him on a sports board. Please drop it. Let's take a vote.
Just when we thought Mark Sanchez couldn't get any worse... let's give him David freaking Lee to make him worried about mundane mechanics while he's trying to avoid 300 lb rushers trying to take his head off. Lee made Fitzpatrick so much worse. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
(I bolded the content) So of course IncarceratedBob is an interesting person. But I found this interesting when reading the article. Bob is basically saying Mike was his source for things within the Jets. Figured this can only add to the fact that Mike might have been the "anonymous" source to beat writers. I didn't start a new thread because well it's incarceratedbob. Article from: http://theclassical.org/articles/se...cheerios-a-conversation-with-incarcerated-bob
That is pretty interesting. Here's my thing: Everyone wants to attribute Pettine as some sort of good buddy with Rex. Pettine was a HIGH SCHOOL COACH a decade ago. Rex did take this guy under his wing, but watching Rex, he really doesn't seem like a great judge of character. He's way too accepting. Look at Holmes. "Tone Time". He accepted Santonio without realizing what a piece of trash he was. This is the Achilles heel of Rex. He is too trusting. If the Jets don't figure out a way to combat that problem, we're rebuilding in 3 years.
Fitz was never good, he put up good #s in meaningless games but for the first time he had expectations from week 1 and failed. That's not on the QB coach, he had less yards this year but the same TDs and 7 less INts and won more games as a starter this year than he ever had before so Lee didn't ruin anything.
