I think he'll do a fine job for you guys, but I hope you realize that our defense was based off of what Rex wanted. Attributing our D rankings the last 4 yrs as proof of Pettine's ability to call plays would be an exercise in futility. Temper your expectations.

Rex is playing out his contract at the very least. Woody essentially made him Director of football operations yesterday. Hell get at least a one year extension after the upcoming season.

Which is what makes it harder to get Norv. A one year Rex, means Norv has a quick shot at another HC gig.

But if you look at the pieces in place, Norv can come in and take a squad that was awful due to injury and turn it around be ause they are healthy, and look like a genius.

It doesn't really matter to me the nitty gritty of his responsibilities he had with the Jets. The point is, he brings Rex's aggressive, exotic attacking philosophy to Buffalo. He knows all the blitzes. He knows all the concepts, and the Bills will finally have an attacking defense (as opposed to the bend but dont break of Wannstedt and Jauron).

We have great players and pass rushers to work with. This should be fun.

Just an FYI, Pettine was known for being more lax with the blitzes. He called the plays in '11, which many people thought was a conservative defense. We finished pretty well (5th), but plenty of games come to mind where our D got conservative towards the end which was an indictment on Pettine (the Tebow drive for one).

Pettine wanted to control a defense by himself, not share the the control with Rex; can't blame him for that. And it's not like he signed with Pats or Dolphins...

A conservative version of Rex's defense is still far more aggressive than what we're used to, lol.

Pettine's scheme will be good for Buffalo even though they are the 4-3. I do not think Pettine is a very good playcaller though. Rex let him call plays and had to take that responsibility back when he struggled. Still don't like him bringing our scheme to Buff though.

lol...ok. Clearly the Jets have been the picture of locker room harmony in the past couple of years. Hard or rather maybe convenient to blame that on the DC.

Enjoy! He can't call plays for dick. Just warning you like the Miami fans did for us when we hired sporano. Pettine was so bad Rex took the playcalling duties from him after 2011. You are going to get sporano'ed.

And maybe Marrone has half a brain in his head and he will use the 7ypc rb more often/properly.

I remember hearing how Pettine had to talk Rex out of blitzing Peyton Manning so much in 2010. That worked out pretty well. Seems like they went with the same philosophy in the next game as well.

Maybe he balanced Rex out a little. Who knows.

Doesn't hurt the 09 starting cornerback was Lito Sheppard while the 10 cornerback was Antonio Cromartie....

Oh man I remember thinking it was a good move when they signed Sheppard. What a disaster that turned out to be. Wasn't he benched for the playoffs that year?

Don't even compare the 2. Jets fans in here were actually deluding themselves it could actually work. No one outside of jets fans actually though Tony could actually be a good hire and in no way has Pettine show in his track record he's as garbage as sparano.

Why is it that every player/coach that leaves this team seems to have to go to an AFC East team? Why can't they go somewhere else?
